People from Bangladeshi and Pakistani backgrounds are over three times more likely to live in the 10% most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK. Less than 25% of working-class people from Bangladeshi and Pakistani backgrounds make it into professional jobs.

YES! So pleased for her. Never before had I heard music as profoundly satisfying and unique as hers. Recommend all South Asian folx on here to give her a listen 🇵🇰

Cultural competency training can’t provide the experience of feeling confident that a healthcare professional can, if required, (correctly) recognise and address one’s cultural background. Homogenous Wellbeing services are not transcendent to this but rather, fails its students.

The latest season of Coke Studio is unreal — the music and aesthetics are so very good. I love it.

Islamophobia is not only rampant in the Conservative Party, it’s rife within British politics more widely. So if you oppose Islamophobia, speak out when Muslim Labour colleagues and I raise it, not only when the Conservatives are guilty of it.

Racism is not “contrary to the British tradition” — How many non-Black academics have been (unduly) credited to making any links between capitalism & slavery, off the back of this suppression? I wonder. theguardian.com/world/2022/j…

Of course, not least and sickeningly so, those academics who benefitted by willingly rejecting Williams’s thesis, perpetuating the idea that Britain, European economic growth had nothing to do with slavery & colonialism

I reckon asking candidates underrepresented in your workforce — what their strengths are/why they are a ‘good fit’ — disadvantages them, as frankly the ones overrepresented have had the privilege of not dealing with an impostor syndrome; discussions at work!

I'd love for all those going on about 'endemicity' and how this means the 'end of a pandemic' to spend a single week in a hospital in India, and see what endemic diseases do to people... the ignorance in scientific leadership in the UK is absolutely breathtaking.

Reflecting about the recruitment process at work & can’t help but feel that giving a 100% weight to the interview is unfair on many counts. Educators are moving away from high-stakes assessment — why not do the same with recruitment? Parity between the written & verbal ‘stages’?

I wanted to tweet more often this year but not sure I’m au fait with how to reconstruct and play by semiotics of this app. Wish me luck!

Ps - I’m incredibly pretentious
Family would disown me if I learned to cook from here — imagine ‘teaching’ the ‘mob’ how to cook — father owns a restaurant in one of the most affluent places in the UK & went to one the most expensive universities in the UK! Feels like entrepreneurial just connotes privilege
'I was at university, none of my mates were cooking, I could see [online cooking content] was not catering to a youthful audience anymore.' Ben Lebus discusses how and why he founded @Mobkitchen. 📺: Freeview 236, Sky 515, Virgin 626.

Some excellent and much needed work for advancing research comms. Extremely grateful I got to be a minuscule part of it.

Women and colleagues from BAME communities are more likely to be precariously employed, more likely to see their careers vanish as universities terminate casual + temporary contracts. This is an equalities issue theguardian.com/education/20…
