I have the same thoughts about @SlowToWrite (Samuel Sey) that I have with all undocumented (or potentially undocumented) immigrants who are living productive otherwise law-abiding lives in the country. 1) Detention is a last resort, not a first resort. 2) If there is *evidence* that they are flight risk (not just suspicion due to immigration status) use an ankle monitor. 3) Detain them if they've committed felonies or are otherwise a threat to the public. Oh, and deportation isn't always the right answer. If a person is married to an American, has a job, and has American kids here then it's usually going to be bad for us and for them to deport. We should *want* productive, peaceful people and families in this country. Border security is very good. We should control who gets in this country and limit immigration to a pace that sustainable, doesn't overwhelm social services, and doesn't overtax communities. Interior enforcement -- especially when dealing with people who are living productive lives here -- can be more perilous. There's lots of consensus to get rid of criminals. Let's do that and then talk about the folks who are living good lives here in the U.S. I think the Reagan approach in 1986 (legalization plus more border security) was correct. We failed, however, at border security in the years and decades that followed, and that is a key reason for our present crisis.

Doug Wilson, the dean of Christian nationalists, says he wants to lead the battle against racism and antisemitism in his own movement. The question: is it too little too late? 1/2

Yes. This is completely possible and not unusual. Welcome to America’s broken immigration system. Now that you realize the injustice, please advocate for the 1000s of others this happens to, rather than continuing to cheer on this immoral mass deportation campaign.

I've seen a number of pastors and politicians telling other pastors to speak up more on politics. I've also seen a number of pastors telling people how they themselves will vote and how others should vote. 1/14

I will vote my conscience, which Jesus alone can bind, and do so with complete faith that neither America nor her politicians are our saviors, that this world is not my home, and that God is bigger than any election. So, don't assume you know who I'm voting for. 13/14

Weekly reminder from Lesslie Newbigin: "When the Church tries to embody the rule of God in the forms of earthly power, it may achieve that power, but it is no longer a sign of the kingdom." #Kingdom #LesslieNewbigin

I’m so tired of being told that we must “vote for policies over people.” Can’t we have both? Where have all the statesmen gone? What happened to compassionate conservatives?

Could a Christian learn some common grace truth from a gay, “married,” transhumanist billionaire with two daughters born via surrogacy? Yes. Should a Christian look to such a man for a theological lecture about the Antichrist? Every person in the pews knows the answer to that.
If you are interested in the truth, you must willing to learn it from any source, even one that you find offensive. Augustine said Christians should not limit themselves to learning from only Christians. Nietzsche, Schmitt, Foucault, Marx should all be read and discussed

Not someone I agree with on much, but she is 100% correct.
Hillary Clinton: “The Republican Party is no longer a political party, it is a cult devoted to Trump and Trump’s power. The Republican Party needs a total transformation. If we’re gonna have a healthy government that actually gets things done and delivers for people, the Republican Party has to purge itself of everybody that lost both their conscience and their backbone over the last ten years and that’s most of them”

Funny how the god of conservative Christianity has a huge problem with how people dress and who they love yet is completely unconcerned with greed, bigotry, senseless violence, and systemic injustice.

Just got this text message. The level of dishonesty and libel being committed by the right is disgusting. @tomryanlaw

Wife and I had the privilege of seeing a local production of Les Miserables. It is such a beautiful story of redemption and unequivocally points to the Gospel. If it came out today, American Evangelicals would do nothing but complain.

"Pro-life" would be 20 Sandy Hook students voting in their first midterm election. Just saying.

3 questions that will keep you on track at any moment in the middle of all the chaos: 1. What does it look like to love God right now? 2. What does it look like to love my neighbor right now? 3. What would make much of Jesus right now? That's it. That's the rubric.

Trump comes to Arizona and insults our governor. Someone in Bullhead City should remind the President that he's a corrupt felon who's driving up the cost of everything while @KatieHobbs is a hardworking, honest and effective public servant who puts Arizona and the country first.
The president can call me whatever names he wants. I’ll keep putting Arizona first. While he’s busy insulting me, his tariffs and the war in Iran are driving up costs for Arizona families. And Andy Biggs has backed him every step of the way.

The worst C. S. Lewis adaptation was that one where his fans made him into an evangelical.

Someone recently told me a story about a woman who had just lost her husband. They had a small sheep farm, and now she was left to care for it without him. Her pastor came to visit. “Could I pray with you and share some Scripture?” he asked. “No,” she said. He was surprised. Then she explained: “My husband just died, and the sheep need to be shorn. You can help me shear the sheep.” The pastor was annoyed. He had come to comfort her with God’s Word. He hadn’t planned to spend his afternoon shearing sheep. She had told him what she needed. But it wasn’t the help he had come prepared to give. I wonder how often we do the same. Sometimes, in suffering and grief, what we need most is someone to help shear the sheep.

You know what I like about Trump? He makes no pretense to virtue. He's just a dog. A nihilistic narcissist. Far worse are the "conservatives" with a cross around their neck and all that. People with the words "character" and "Christ" on their lips. Rankest, foulest hypocrites.
.@VP JD Vance implies U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico (D-TX) is gay: "I love you too, sir. In a totally platonic way, to be clear. I'm the Vice President, not James Talarico."
