Yesterday, while reporting from Kartavya Path in Delhi, I met some schoolchildren in uniform. They told me their school had sent them to attend this lamp-lighting ceremony for the Prime Minister’s birthday. Their exams are going on, yet the school sent them there.
According to several news reports, school and college students were made to participate in similar events across the country.
Now, IIM Jammu has marked students absent for not attending a similar ceremony on campus and asked them to explain their absence. The email also says a fine may be imposed.
How sad. How pathetic. What is wrong with this country? What is wrong with this government?
