A love affair in East Berlin between a 19yo and a married-writer in his 50s, while a country falling apart. Not a fan of age-gap love stories, and this one isn't really a love story. Kairos /Gk/ is the word for the right moment, the one you only recognise once it has passed.

We're about to enter a period where not reading or writing becomes as ubiquitous as smoking once was. We can hope people will eventually realize this is bad for them, as they did with smoking. But this is far from certain; the cost may not be as obvious.

The AI impact won't be felt immediately through layoffs (existing jobs are sticky), but through a collapse in hiring (jobs that don't yet exist have no stickiness).
The problem isn’t that AI is intelligent. It isn’t. The problem is that too many adults (but not all) are at once mechanistic, imitative, unimaginative, stupid, formulaic, influenceable, & gullible, arrogant beyond their skill set, & too expensive to maintain.

Never lose your wit, your calm or your vibe, whatever phase of life you are in. Fight with a cool head. It is a marathon, and life has to be lived along the way. Keep smiling. Long fight indeed.

I would like to believe the red One Piece tshirt was no coincidence. It's what being young looks like- fearless, stubborn, and hopeful when it makes no sense to be.

I am stunned at the lengths we are going to prevent this protest. If this isn't some way of admitting guilt, what is?

Reading isn't only about knowing more, but more importantly being ruled less. Someone who reads seriously owns more than facts. They own their mind.

Met someone here. Her brother, early sixties, avid reader, a home full of books. Had a stroke 2 years ago. Recovered now, remembers most of the books he’s read, the stories. But he can’t read. Letters, everything, gone. Learning from alphabets, now at 4th grade level. Life!

I felt this series is more about loneliness than anything else. A kitchen full of people screaming at each other, and every one of them is completely alone.

Every time I read something on the future of work, I come out more confused than when I started. If work becomes optional like Musk annan says, then what happens to us? Nobody writing this stuff seems to have thought about developing countries for even a minute.

Reading gets mechanical after a point. An act to fill a void. Like a low-agency timepass activity, or a distraction. None of it is bad. Anyway, to get the essence of reading, you have to make something out of what you have gained. Read slow, and always re-read the best ones
You don't need a PhD in a topic before you can start doing it. You don't need to watch 10 YouTube videos, 20 podcasts, and read 5 books before you start. That only gets you stuck in a cycle of mental masturbation and feeling like you never know enough. Most people should start learning only after they've started doing the thing.

A large part is about his investigation on Stanford president, but it's also about Stanford itself, how the university selects you into the power structure and hands you access to powerful people, VCs and the rest, which is the honest answer to why anyone still goes to college.

Also, Theo is born to Washington's most powerful journalist couple, which might be why, in his teens, he went all in on investigative reporting. A normal college student would have chosen this for obvious reasons. Infact, he used that privilege to point it at powerful people

We assumed religion survives on belief. It doesn't. It survives because it is the largest support system most people will ever have access to.

Look at what an association with religion actually delivers. A school admission. A hospital bed. Money when the bank says no. A marriage fixed. A funeral arranged. A job through somebody's brother in Dubai. None of that is theology.
