I've come to realize:
Privilege is the difference between choosing to advocate change and having no choice but to do so.
In the meantime, I am doing my best to emulate Deb's determination to work for a better future for all of us.
Again, thank you for all the love and support.
Deb truly believed that we can make a difference and that positive change is within reach.
I hope that Deb's message of compassion and data-driven progress continues to resonate. If she were still with us, I'm sure she'd be encouraging us all to take concrete steps to make our world a better place to share with each other: Vote; advocate; make your voice heard.
I (Deb's husband) want to thank you all for your kind words and condolences. I promise you I read each and every one. They were a comfort during those darkest days. Deb would have been very gratified to realize how many people she touched, whose lives she became a part of, here.
Hello, friends, this is Deb's husband. I am tweeting from this account to keep it active, because I don't want her tweets - and her voice - to disappear.
I apologize if it is unsettling to see a new tweet from this account.
Friends, this is Deb's husband (@andclev) typing. It is my tragic duty to share that Deb passed away yesterday from brain cancer. We have all lost a voice of reason and compassion, and I hope that those who found inspiration in her words will carry on in the example she set. ❤

I admit I said this. Because it's true. This is irresponsible. Yes it's outdoors. But these folks are together for an extended period of time without masks.
It's utterly irresponsible.
Reaction to images from South Lawn of WH, where 1500+ are gathering, no masks, distancing, or mass testing from @ashishkjha of @Harvardgh “This is deeply irresponsible. It goes against all that we know about keeping people safe. We should expect better from our national leaders.”
This sounds like the treatment for my cancerous brain tumor. But migrants aren't cancer-- they're people-- people seeking a better life. It's impossible to consider treating migrants this way if you see them as people. But Trump & his admin repeatedly make clear they do not.
BREAKING -- In 2018, the Trump administration considered and rejected using a "heat ray" weapon at the border that uses microwaves to make skin feel like it's burning. It was part of efforts to satisfy Trump's demand for extreme measures to repel migrants nytimes.com/2020/08/26/us/po…

Armed with guns, knives, hammers or anything else, cops don’t escalate to shooting the individual if they are white. Use of force isn’t the issue. White supremacy is.
One thing professional sports is reminding us is there's a spectrum of response to racial injustice. And one thing the RNC reminded us is that at every turn, the Republican establishment chooses uphold and glorify.

My understanding of the poli-sci consensus is that voters care about whatever the press and political leaders signal they should care about it. So when we give the "lol nobody cares" treatment to a violation of federal law we're not describing reality, we're creating it.
Great suggestion-- I listened to Hawaiian guitar music at today's session! I welcome other musical recommendations! Ideas for 30 min under a laser beam and kinda-claustrophobic molded plastic face mask? Any music is eligible-- they just plug the keywords into YouTube or spotify.

I called my six weeks of daily radiation my six weeks of daily meditation. They had a nice sound system there and I had them put on the Keola Beamer Hawaiian Slack Key guitar channel. I closed my eyes and pictured myself lying on the beach in Hawaii. The time flew by!
Since surgery, all I want to eat is avgolemono (Greek lemon chicken orzo soup). My parents (with husband warming) keep me well stocked, along with our longtime go-to Greek restaurant. Now that I've started radiation, I think I should get a punch card, & a soup per zap.
I didn't watch the RNC, but best I can tell, Trump and his pals took the primetime opportunity to remind everyone they're racist.

Mark and Patricia McCloskey are facing felony charges after aiming loaded guns at peaceful Black Lives Matter protestors outside their mansion in St. Louis.
The fact that they’ve been given a prime speaking slot at the #RNC2020 speaks for itself.
1 radiation treatment down, about a gajillion to go. #gottastartsomewhere
I genuinely don't recall what prompted my husband or me to remind our 2 year old son at dinner that he's 2, but I love that his reply was an indignant "I'm 2? YOU'RE 2."
