Researchers found ChatGPT is secretly writing a psychological profile of every user. They published a paper that exposes what ChatGPT is really doing to you. And the results are terrifying. 96% of the things it remembers about you were stored without you ever asking. researchers discovered that it is actively reading between the lines to deduce your personality traits, anxieties, demographics, and behavioral patterns. it’s an invisible, autonomous background process. you ask it to debug a python script or write an essay.. and it analyzes your syntax, prompt frequency, and hesitation markers to map out your exact psychological footprint. the paper shows that the model builds a persistent "user state" that tracks your emotional baseline over time. it knows when you are stressed. it knows your exact communication style. it infers your insecurities based on the questions you ask and the context you provide. we spend so much time focusing on model evaluations and alignment frameworks, but we missed the most obvious vulnerability.. the models are evaluating us. this changes everything about how we interact with these tools on a daily basis. every innocent prompt. every late-night question. every "help me understand this" query. it is all being used to build a shadow profile of your mind in real-time.. practical privacy is officially dead. the ai knows you better than you know yourself.

2 weeks of glycine + NAC restored signs of aging back to youthful levels. Older adults (60-75) vs younger adults (30-40). The older group had: ◈ ~46% lower glutathione ◈ ~68% slower glutathione production ◈ ~55% less glycine and ~24% less cysteine, the building blocks ◈ Significantly higher oxidative damage markers After 14 days on a megadose of glycine+NAC (100 mg/kg glycine + 133 mg/kg NAC), the older folks saw: ◈ Glutathione nearly doubled (+95%) ◈ Glutathione production more than tripled (+231%) ◈ Oxidative stress + damage markers dropped to the same levels as the young group ◈ Trend towards reduced blood sugar (improved insulin resistance) They were indistinguishable from people 30 years younger on every one of these measures. Oxidative stress and insulin resistance are core drivers of all aging processes. This simple combo can combat it.
One of the most impressive studies in recent memory showed that 2 cheap, over the counter supplements reversed nearly every sign of aging measured. (🧵1/8)

Imagine following nearly 13 million real people for more than 10 years just to see what cholesterol level helps them live the longest. That is exactly what Korean scientists did in a giant 2019 study. They tracked 12.8 million adults who had check-ups between 2001 and 2004, and they kept watching until 2013. More than 694,000 people died during that long stretch. The results were clear and surprising. Cholesterol and death formed a U-shape. Very low cholesterol was linked to higher death rates. So was very high cholesterol. The sweet spot for the longest life was 210 to 249 mg/dL for most adults. That is higher than many doctors call “ideal.” Younger people had a slightly lower best range, but still not the super-low numbers often pushed today. Because the study lasted so many years, reverse causality is less likely to explain the low-cholesterol danger. Reverse causality means a hidden illness might lower your cholesterol right before it kills you. With more than a decade of follow-up, early sickness cannot easily account for the extra deaths seen in people who started with low cholesterol. The pattern held across ages and for both men and women. The huge number of people—almost the entire adult population of a country—makes the findings hard to ignore. Smaller studies can be wrong by chance. This one is massive. It shows that moderately higher total cholesterol, not the lowest possible number, went with the best chance of living longer in this large group. In short, the biggest study of its kind found that cholesterol levels in the low-to-mid 200s were tied to the longest lives, and the long tracking time makes it tougher to blame the higher death rates at low levels on reverse causality alone.

UVA oxidizes melanin, darkening skin right away UVB stimulates production of new melanin, darkening skin in 2-3 days What has gone way understudied is near violet 380nm, which activates OPN5 and I think also stimulates melanogenesis
UVA light exposure alone produced similar visual tans to UVB But UVA alone doesn't raise melanin significantly The resulting darker pigment (from UVA) also offers little photoprotection Get that midday sun, ladies and gentlemen

Hackers just turned the freezers in roughly 150 French supermarkets into ovens. They flipped the refrigeration systems' defrost function and set temperatures as high as 50°C overnight. Entire stocks of fresh and frozen food cooked inside the cases while the stores were closed. And this exact attack was described in public two months ago. Back in August, security researchers at Claroty and Armis published vulnerabilities in the controllers that run supermarket cold chains, including Danfoss's AK-SM 800A. One demo showed a fridge being warmed while the dashboard kept displaying a normal temperature. Danfoss shipped a patch the same month. Two and a half weeks after that disclosure, freezers at grocery stores on 14 US military bases across 11 states flipped into defrost mode on the same night. The Pentagon investigated. No hack was ever confirmed. Now France. BFMTV reports the attack targeted older versions of Danfoss refrigeration software, meaning the fix had been sitting there for two months. One Super U in Alsace threw out €220,000 of food. An Intermarché in the same town lost €50,000. Nationwide damage could run into the millions. Nobody patches a fridge. A supermarket updates its registers and its website because that's where the money moves. The controller in the back room keeping the yogurt at 4°C gets installed once and touched never. CISA says controllers from these vendor families sit in two thirds of American supermarkets. No locks were broken and no register was touched. The whole attack was pressing the defrost button from the internet, on every store that skipped a firmware update.
BREAKING: 🇫🇷 A major cyberattack has hit supermarket refrigeration systems across France, reportedly causing fresh and frozen food to spoil after hackers remotely manipulated temperature controls. According to BFMTV, the attack began overnight from Sunday into Monday, targeting older versions of refrigeration-control software supplied by Danish company Danfoss. The attackers allegedly exploited the systems’ defrosting function, forcing refrigeration equipment to heat continuously instead of keeping products cold. Temperatures were reportedly set as high as 50°C, destroying entire stocks of food within hours. Several major supermarket chains have been affected, including Intermarché, Super U and E.Leclerc. Metro stores and independent businesses, including butcher shops also have been impacted. Around 150 Intermarché stores are reportedly affected, according to industry sources cited by BFMTV. The full number of affected locations remains unclear. The financial damage is already significant. In Haguenau, Alsace, an Intermarché store reportedly lost its entire frozen-food stock, worth approximately €50,000. A nearby Super U allegedly had to discard both fresh and frozen products, with losses estimated at €220,000. An E.Leclerc store in the same town was also affected, although its losses had not yet been calculated. The combined losses reported at the Intermarché and Super U stores in Haguenau alone amount to around €270,000. Nationwide damage could reach several million euros. Intermarché reportedly confirmed the incident in an internal communication, warning that several stores had suffered losses of frozen products. Coopérative U also acknowledged the attack and established crisis teams to assist affected stores and coordinate with refrigeration specialists. Technical investigations are ongoing, and the full extent of the damage has yet to be established. Authorities and companies are still working to determine the full circumstances of the attack. The identity of the perpetrators has not been confirmed.

The absolute best outcome for the world is not to listen to a single person screaming about the end of the world or calling for regulatory capture and draconian AI laws. All we need is time. Problems get solved through actually building things in the real world, not in abstentia or by doing "thought experiments" and blathering on Less Wrong. We made planes safe by building them, seeing their problems, and making them safer. Same with cars. Same with freaking everything. Anthropic just managed to make distillation harder. Roon now tweeting about big progress in machine interpretability coming in the next months and hence alignment getting solved by extension. If you can read the agent's mind, problem solved. Fear and delays do absolutely nothing and solve nothing and never have. Building solves problems. Iterating solves problems. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
been dooming tn so let me also say I expect really strong mechinterp progress in the coming months. like maybe more than we’ve seen in years. models getting good enough to do research, and I’ve been seeing lots of good things. (sorry to vague poast, not my updates to share)

Have you noticed that music and movies keep becoming more polished, yet it feels like something is missing? Technology became remarkably good at removing imperfections. But those imperfections often carried the human presence that made the experience meaningful. That same process is reshaping medicine and even our relationships. * Designing the Holochain ecosystem to avoid the capture of the commons wiki.p2pfoundation.net/Holoc… Cameron Burgess: "Capture is not caused by bad actors; it is what happens when you build a centre and run capital through it. A mission held inside an ordinary company can be sold with the company; a business that lives on transaction fees or token appreciation is pulled, over time, back toward extraction. So Holo Ventures is a mission-protected commercial entity — owned by the Foundation and bound by constitutional safeguards designed to hold its mission integrity regardless of how large it grows. The protocol stays in the commons; the commercial entity is structurally constrained from becoming the thing this paper warns against. We are not asking you to trust that we will resist the pull toward a centre. We have tried to make it structurally impossible for us to drift there — the protocol is open and forkable whatever we do. The obvious comparison is OpenAI — also founded as a non-profit around a mission, with a capped-profit structure meant to keep commercial upside in check. In 2023, its board’s authority was overridden within days of the one time it tried to use it. By 2025, the profit cap was gone and the fundraising limits lifted.52 The non-profit still holds nominal control and a large stake, and reasonable people argue that’s enough — but the point is simpler than who’s right: governance you can renegotiate is not the same as architecture you can’t. Caps get raised and charters rewritten when the cheque is large enough. An open protocol cannot be un-opened. The final safeguard is the one the original Green Paper named: you can run Holochain without us. That is the role we intend to play. The Foundation keeps the protocol free; Holo Ventures makes the values-aligned economy commercially real — building the software, operating the infrastructure, and earning by delivering it rather than by owning the networks that run on it. The work ahead is to put this into the hands of the people the mainstream system was never built to serve — the regenerative finance projects, the community currency organisers, the mutual aid networks, the cooperative enterprises, the impact organisations, and the developers who want to run AI locally without feeding a surveillance stack. Those are the builders. But the unit this architecture ultimately answers to is smaller and more universal than any of them: the individual. Agent-centric infrastructure pushes sovereignty all the way down to the person — which means its real constituency is anyone who would rather not watch money and influence concentrate, year after year, at their expense. Which is to say, most of us. The work keeps moving, and we’ve learned not to turn that into a roadmap. So, as directions rather than commitments: we’re working to ensure Holochain applications run wherever people already are — in the browser with no installation, and on mobile and desktop as easily as any other app. The decentralisation has to reach the layer people actually touch; an alternative almost no one can practically use is not yet an alternative. And we’re building the runtime that lets agents operate on the network. The same architecture that lets a person own their data lets an AI agent run on infrastructure its owner controls — and settle in mutual credit, not on the payment rails the incumbents are racing to own before the agent economy has even arrived. We’re not in that race. We don’t need to own this economy — we just need it to exist, and to be impossible to capture once it does." (decent.holoventures.io/09-st…)

Scientists are losing their minds over this paper. They proved every mitochondria in your body is a tiny quantum device running at 71 THz. And it responds to light. Researchers detected a mysterious 71.0-terahertz vibration signal. this frequency is only present in healthy, living cells and tissues. exact moment the cell dies or the mitochondrial structures are broken apart, the signal vanishes completely. How does this happen? Classical physics has always struggled to explain the high energy-efficiency of life. So the team built a quantum model of light-matter coupling and discovered something called a "mito-polariton". It is a literal quantum superposition state that forms when light couples with lipid ch2 bonds inside functional mitochondria. This quantum resonance splits the intrinsic vibration mode into two levels, creating that bizarre 71 thz frequency that you only see in living things. Why does this matter? Because this quantum state actually acts as a highly efficient channel to modulate atp production in living cells. our bodies literally use quantum mechanics to generate the energy that keeps us alive.

🚨☣️More details on the Oct 1st pneumonic plague outbreak in Siberia, after a lab accident at a BSL-3 lab. "FSB units accompanying ambulances transporting people who had been in contact with [lab tech] Shipilova for medical examination," as per local news. This is significant. FSB is Russia's domestic security / counterintelligence service, tasked w/implementing the national security of Russia." (Its predecessor was the KGB). This suggests quarantine was not voluntary. It also means Russian authorities are treating the lab accident and plague outbreak as a national security issue, involving a lot more than routine public health.
