So infuriating!! The BBC is interviewing a minister about the fact that 1 in 8 people in Uk prison was born abroad. This is 12.5% of the UK population. Why doesn’t the interviewer point out that that is LOWER than the 16% of the uk population born abroad??

During a highly unusual speech at the DOJ, Donald Trump said that CNN and MSNBC are ‘illegal.’
This is what fascism looks like.
Here are my two cents on why the #Democrats lost #Election2024 to #Trump and the #Republicans.

Saw #outofwoodstock at the @edfringe and really enjoyed it. A stellar one-hander
I have just written about democratic innovation in corporate boardrooms, following on from a recent @FT article by Stuart Kirk. Making corporations more democratic might not improve results, but could be worth trying, and would certain improve legitimacy

Fascinating experiment at #TICTeC by @BertelsmannSt which combined features of a citizen’s assembly with mass online engagement
Excited to be at #TICTeC in London by @mySociety
After the first panel, I believe we have the tools for invigorating democracy, but they won’t matter if people don’t care and if we don’t loudly call out bad behaviour
Saw the @netflix series @ManifestNFLX tonight, which was the final episode, and the “death date” in the series. I thought the ending was great, even though seasons 3 and 4 sagged a bit
Another triumph for @BigHouseTheatre . Congrats to Maggie Norris and the whole team behind Between the Lines at the @newdiorama
Great response.
🚨 BREAKING: Labour responds to Rishi Sunak’s plan to introduce national service for all 18 year olds
"This is another desperate £2.5 billion unfunded commitment from a Tory Party which already crashed the economy, sending mortgages rocketing, and now they're spoiling for more.
"This is not a plan - it's a review which could cost billions and is only needed because the Tories hollowed out the Armed Forces to their smallest size since Napoleon.
"Britain has had enough of the Conservatives, who are bankrupt of ideas, and have no plans to end 14 years of chaos. It's time to turn the page and rebuild Britain with Labour."

I argue that trends in democratic innovation remind me of what I observed in #impinv over decades. Financial institutions, corporations and politicians rarely do things because "it's the right thing to do", but because its in their selfish interest

Just heard on the radio that #Sunak is stressing the fact that he is delivering for Britain, and used as an example his commitment to reach 2.5% of GDP on military spending by 2030 as an example. How is a promise to do something in six years “delivering”
Just posted a blog which presents the strengthening case against representative democracy. Citizens' Assemblies, argued for by Polly Curtis of Demos, can help re-engage citizens and enable cooperation w politicians in solving really thorny problems.

Wow! This is desperate
