I'm leaving Twitter, for obvious reasons. I'll still check this, but let's connect on Bluesky!

...But before I leave I need to share this amazing article with you all!
‼️New pub alert‼️ Woke up to see this out today in @SocialMedia_Soc! In this study, we seek to understand disclosure among those with intersecting stigmas in Mumbai. This work also brought me to India last year where I finally got to meet our wonderful collaborators in-person!
Thanks for the shout out @RetractionWatch!
“'They Only Silence the Truth': COVID-19 retractions and the politicization of science."

Excited to be at #AoIR2024 this weekend! I’ve organized the panel on "Misinformation, Conspiracy, & the Politicization of Digitally Mediated Science."
Join us tomorrow at 9:00 am to explore how digital spaces are shaping (mis)understandings of science!
New publication alert! 🚨
Scientific retractions are increasingly being spun into conspiracies about science on social media. Agnes Horvat and I document this worrying trend in the context of COVID-19.

#Retractions #SciComm #COVID19
5) What do retractions do for science credibility? @Maarten_Derksen points out that corrections may undermine more foundational tenants of scientific practice. Calls to mind @zephoria's Jenga tower.
7) What are the epistemic challenges of AI? @b_penders discusses some conditions under which AI can be considered legitimate in science.
At the roundtable on #scientificcorrections at @STSeasst! I will live tweet some important points.
4) Is transparency always desirable? @NicoleCNelson argues that describing the reasons for retraction won't necessarily convince skeptical audiences of the legitimacy of the retraction.
3) Different epistemic cultures within fields/countries produce different rates of errors (but also, different rates of error corrections).
Replying to @rodabhari @STSeasst
2) Replication crisis is based in part on a familiar STS issue. Does the replication fail because of the original study was wrong, or because the replication methods were?
Replying to @rodabhari @STSeasst
1) Retractions are up, but not necessarily because academic fraud is up; probably because scrutiny of science is increasing (I agree with this).
Who all is going to the 4S/EASST @STSeasst conference this week? Looking for suggestions for talks that I should attend! And if you're around, come see my presentation on retraction conspiracies on Tuesday at 10:30 (Panel P089)!
My research on violent meme detection with @aysed_9, @villaturek, @ChloeMortenson and @mowafakallaham received a top paper award from the visual communication division at NCA @NatComm! Come see me present it at the @SocMediaConf on Thursday!
I'm presenting on a virtual panel about the online (mis)use of science this Wednesday! Follow the link for registration information. Hope to see you there! scientistsspeakup.wixsite.co…
I had the distinct pleasure of presenting my research on extremist meme classification at the Stanford Trust & Safety Conference this weekend. Thank you @stanfordio for such a well-run conference experience!
