I wish there was a way we could just rip off the bandaid as a society and start handing out UBI and ditch all of the fake jobs but that's just not how reality works. You're going to have to hang in there. There's going to be pain and loss. It will not last forever. Have a plan.

I can't really think of a more dehumanizing job. You just sit there in a catatonic state, knowing that your existence is utterly pointless. You're being paid only because some pseudo-progressive isn't creating enough to actually solve the automation distribution problem. Instead of a municipal wealth fund or a state endowment to support you, so you can spend time with your friends, family, and developing useful skills, the best these politicians can do is paralysis. They will ossify civilization with their stupidity, spinelessness, and lack of vision. Post-Labor Economics is the only way forward.
JUST IN: Portland considers requiring a paid human “safety operator” inside every driverless robotaxi to protect jobs.

i think there'd be a lot of value in non-nerds reading (if not the books) the wikipedia page for The Culture, which IMHO has become a kind of unspoken assumed standin among tech-types for the answer to the question "what is the good future we envision" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cu…

You heard it here first: Pope Leo says we must solve continual learning and real-time weight updates before we can deem the models truly intelligent.
Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

Calling it now The AI debate turned a bunch of leftists who previously opposed strict copyright/intellectual property laws into die-hard copyright warriors The lab grown meat debate will result in a similar 180 for a lot of leftists who previously opposed the meat industry
There's going to be a left wing backlash to lab grown meat and it's going to be so dumb

i think i am most excited about ai as a means to transhumanism. a future in which we cede control of ourselves as humans is a negative one. merge yes, change yes, be transformed and unrecognizable yes, but never surrender

funny how leftists fervently pontificated about “luxury space gay communism” for years only to turn to ludditism the second a technology capable of getting us there became accessible

1. we haven't looked hard enough 2. species with the sort of ambitious risky expansionist tendencies of humans are very rare for some reason, and you need to be like that to be spacefaring
What’s your solution to the Fermi Paradox?

Why is Google's AI so fucking funny? I actually ran out of usage just asking it the dumbest questions I could think of. I didn't even know that could happen.

China is trying to strangle India's industrialization
“LFP is not available anywhere in the world outside of China, and right now they are guarding it like a weapon.” Indian firm JSW’s plan to build 50 GWh LFP battery plant in India is on hold after failing to get a Chinese tech partner. Other Indian firms face similar challenges. Source: livemint.com/companies/jsw-p…
