Dr Prathosh’s question about what happens to universities if companies stop recruiting from campuses got me thinking about something much bigger. I am reasonably sure AI is going to disrupt the way our societies and economies are organized. If intellectual labour becomes cheap, the current system of education, credentials and jobs could start losing its importance. I can visualise the future with two very different possibilities. The first is that AI could concentrate enormous power in a few companies and governments. In this case, I don't fear AI superintelligence as much as I fear the power it could give a few people to shape and control the world according to how they think everyone should live, reducing diversity and making ordinary people even more dependent on a centralized top-down system. The second possibility is that if intelligence and access to knowledge become cheap and widely available, education no longer has to mean going through institutions that sell one "respectable" path. Instead, people could learn directly, form small research groups, learn trades, build things in family or community workshops, work with their local communities and prove themselves by what they can actually do rather than by the degree they hold. This could break the idea that there is only one respectable path in life. Most of us are brought up to believe that we have to study formally, get credentials, get a job and keep climbing. But once our basic needs are reasonably secure, a good life is really about relationships, community and doing things we genuinely care about. Today, how much of what we chase beyond the basic necessities actually comes from our own curiosity or innate drive, and how much was put into our heads by the system? Maybe AI can help us rediscover that choice. We could move towards a world of many smaller, voluntary, locally organised communities, without having to reproduce the limitations of ancient societies. A world where people have much more freedom to learn, work and live in different ways. So for me, the real question is what happens next. Does cheap intelligence make power even more concentrated and people more dependent? Or does it put extraordinary capabilities into the hands of ordinary people and give them much more freedom to think and live for themselves, on their own terms ? I very much hope we get the second.
Dr. Pratosh at IISc Bengaluru tells his students that rapid advances in AI are commoditizing intellectual labour. He raises an unsettling question: if companies stop recruiting on campus in the next 5–10 years—even at India’s top universities—what will the purpose of a university education be ? A must watch video for everyone in tech

2017-19 RCB was basically Kohli and ABD doing unpaid overtime while the bowling attack committed unreal crimes. finished last twice. got cooked by random uncapped batters. their entire strategy was "inshallah Virat masterclass/ABD pls save our ass". post-2020 these mfs quietly became a proper cricket team. 2020 - playoffs 2021 - playoffs 2022 - qualifier 2 2023 - missed by one game 2024 - 1% chance and went on to win 6 in a row to qualify. 😭 2025 - IPL CHAMPIONS. 2026 - first team to get qualified. 2015-16 was peak and then the downfall of 2017-19, genuinely love watching this after the random rollercoaster rides we've had. no more dependency merchant setup. actual bowling. actual planning. actual clutch players. love you till the end no matter the results .@RCBTweets 🫶❤️
