Been thinking for the past few days about how the journalistic obeisance to “objectivity” ultimately comes out of an extraordinarily white (hence privileged) place

possibly unpopular opinion time, but: yes, spraying stuff on Stonehenge is annoying, but Stonehenge is very old and made of [checks notes] stone, and will probably survive.

I did not know there was an earthquake in Almaty, but I respect the hell out of “I want to sleep”
Waking up in the middle of the night as things start falling from the shelves. It felt like magnitude 5-6. Outside is -15C. Some small pushes are still felt even now. But I remain in bed because I want to sleep 😴 #Almaty #earthquake

Man if only there were some text we could consult about this … wait archives.gov/founding-docs/c…
In the Trump immunity case, Judge Pan says Trump lawyer Dean Sauer has conceded that there's no "absolute Immunity" because Sauer's actually arguing prosecution after impeachment and conviction is permissible. This concession, Judge Pan notes, invalidates one of the main arguments Sauer raised in favor of immunity before the hearing: that the doctrine of separation of powers means the judicial branch can never sit in judgment of the executive branch.

For my english speaking buds in here, to let y'all know what's happening in my country: At 9 PM today Javier Milei came in via national broadcast to announce the nullifying, by a DNU ("Necessity & Urgency Decree" - so a presidential edict), of around 300 laws, featuring...
Multitudinario cacerolazo en el Congreso. Se va sumando gente que llega desde diferentes puntos. Rechazo al DNU de Javier Milei.

This is a take
Like a Soviet-era dictator, and in a raw exercise of power without provision of law, Pope Francis has removed Bp. Joseph Strickland as bishop of Tyler, TX.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Misleading: implies irregularity or illegality under Catholic rule/Vatican law. The Catholic Church doctrine of papal supremacy is over 1000 years old. The Pope "has full, supreme, and universal power over the whole Church, a power which he can always exercise unhindered." vatican.va/archive/ENG001… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papal_sup…

“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President”
Case law is clear. Naturalized citizens can run for President: "Schneider is clear that treating natural born citizens and naturalized citizens differently is contrary to the Fifth Amendment. Forbidding naturalized citizens from being president or vice president is a form of discrimination that limits their options and treats them as secondclass citizens." repository.law.uic.edu/cgi/v…

Here’s my story about how I once talked to Keffe D and why there’s never really been much mystery about who killed Tupac.

Lykorgous almost certainly never existed and the Spartans were actually pretty average at warfare but sure bro
Regarding Lycurgus, founder of Sparta. The pivotal moment in the creation of Sparta came when Lycurgus proposed radical laws that would transform the state into some of the greatest warriors in history. A member of the assembly was so offended that he struck Lycurgus in the eye. Lycurgus could easily have killed him and everyone knew it. Instead, he stood there with his eye destroyed and invited that man to his house for dinner, ultimately convincing the man to become one of his greatest supporters. Once the laws were in place, Lycurgus left for the temple, saying the laws could not change until he returned. Then Lycurgus starved himself to death. BAMF. The lesson here is that revenge is for the weak.

I see we are about to have a surge of Twitter experts in siege warfare and the Laws of Armed Conflict. I am not an expert in the LOAC, but I suggest this primer by someone who is: lieber.westpoint.edu/siege-l… The upshot is regular practice and legal implications remain unsettled.
