I'm fascinated that Chelsea have put an option to buy in the Spurs loan deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk. If you've followed me for more than four minutes, you'll know my views on 'options to buy' when you're the club loaning the player out. You're getting taken for a ride. The club taking the player gets 12 months of additional information before deciding whether to buy him at a price YOU set an entire season earlier. And yes, Chelsea get a loan fee and his wages covered. They could've got that from another loan without giving away the option. It's lose/lose. An option to buy caps your upside without protecting your downside. If he's outstanding, the price you agreed 12 months ago is now well below what he's worth. So they buy him and instantly he's worth a lot more. If he's poor, they send him straight back. You carry the downside, and every club in Europe knows the side that's watched him every day for 12 months wouldn't pay £x for him. Heads they win. Tails you lose. #CFC #THFC
