Accelerating warming means a quadratic trendline. And it seems to fit pretty well, showing a current anomaly of 1.38°C over the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline and even faster warming ahead.

And by σ I mean standard deviation.
If you don't understand what this means, it's just a tad too complicated to explain in tweets. But essentially these values are far far beyond anything even vaguely normal when considering the odds of them happening by purely by chance.

Unpopular opinion: There are two tendencies that are, by themselves, devastating indictments of our entire civilisation.
The first is gardening for aesthetics rather than biodiversity. Our landscapes are deathscapes and we call them "pretty", WTAF.

This is getting ridiculous.
OISST provides a real-time daily index of ocean surface temperature (60 S - 60 N). For the last month it has been continuously reading higher than in any previous year and still shows no sign of settling.

There are really only two flaws with using tests to assess learning: Right answers often don’t reflect real understanding, and wrong answers often don’t reflect the absence of understanding.
(Note that this is true of teacher-designed tests, not just the standardized kind.)

If we’re going to have serious conversations about our students’ #mentalhealth, we need to address one of the major triggers of stress and anxiety for them, a nonsensical and ineffective system that varies from hour-to-hour and year-to-year: grades.

Shout out to the students who keep showing up. We see you working while siblings cry, the internet fails, links are slow, and you are just done with all of this. We know it is hard and you miss your friends.
We get it. Hang in there.

Ss provide us with more insight about our teaching than any other resource or person. Ss continually speak to us through their learning and struggles. We just need to take the time to listen, value their messages, and make the necessary changes to our practice.

Van, thank you for expressing the sorrow and relief that we all feel. My hope is that those who hoped for a different outcome will take a moment to empathize with the pain so many of us have felt over the past four years.

😯 *Furiously taking notes* — had a class Spotify playlist in NBE last spring, but embedding it in Brightspace is next level #OCV
Added a @Spotify music playlist to my #Brightspace class. Students can recommend songs they like or they feel are related to what we're studying in class. Had to start it off with some @MariahCarey though. 😉
