I have been elected four times by the residents of Richmond, three times as a City Councillor and once as an MLA, I have won two nomination battles, Civic and Provincial… my history in Richmond politics stretched back to when my Mother served this City as a Councillor in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s… I have never been asked to pay to participate in an election debate… until now… The debate organizer continues to omit facts in their posts. To set the record straight I’m am posting below, email correspondence that was sent to my attention via the Richmond Forward Campaign email address. Of note, I never did agree to participate, I had only requested debate format/rules. Below: 1) A forwarded/resent email, dated Monday August 10th, two days before the debate, 2) the debate rules, and 3) an invoice for $3,150.00. Democracy is not for sale, and transparency matters, I call on the debate organizer for a full apology. My commitment has long been the relentless pursuit of confirming Aboriginal title CANNOT be declared over fee simple lands. I’m relieved to hear the Supreme Court of Canada reaffirm this today. I look forward to hearing this affirmed again and again as we appeal the Cowichan.
