As promised, it's time to launch the public beta of the JOS Compositor!
I'm overwhelmed by the response so far. I've been contacted by so many people, from solo artists all the way to major VFX companies like ILM, Weta, Framestore, DNEG, and others. Thank you all for your interest and support!
I've put a tremendous amount of work into this project, but this is still a beta. Things will break, bugs will happen, and finding those issues is exactly what beta testing is for.
**HOW TO JOIN THE BETA**
Register at the bottom of the main page on the website. You'll receive your license by email. Once you have it, open the Help menu in the compositor and load your license.
**WATCH THE VIDEO FIRST**
If you want to participate in the beta, please watch the entire video. It contains important information about the software and the testing process.
**LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE**
I'm starting with 50 beta testers. If demand is high, I may open up additional spots.
Many of you have already reached out asking to try the compositor. I can't keep up with every message, so if you don't get a spot, send me a private message and I'll get you a license.
**A NOTE ABOUT PERFORMANCE AND 3D**
I'm testing on a pretty insane machine, so I have no idea yet how the compositor will perform on less powerful hardware. That's one of the things I want to find out during this beta.
The 3D features are functional, but they're not ready for testing yet. They still need a lot of work, so please leave them alone for now.
**BUG REPORTS AND FEEDBACK**
The documentation on the website should be up to date.
Please don't send bug reports, comments, or suggestions through social media. I'll never be able to keep track of everything that way. Instead, use the bug report, suggestions, and forums sections, accessible through the Help menu.
During the beta, I'll be releasing a new version every morning, with bug fixes and improvements. Check the Help menu regularly to get the latest update.
**ONE LAST THING**
The JOS Compositor has some compatibility with Nuke, but remember: it's not Nuke, and it's not a clone like Natron. This is its own project, with its own approach to compositing.
Thanks again to everyone who's shown interest. Now let's see what happens when we put it into the hands of artists.
Enjoy!

JOS compositor will go beta on Monday! It will first be limited to 50 people. I'm looking for senior Nuke users first. But also people who will understand that it's not Nuke. Then, depending on how it goes, I will expand to more people. I had to work on the documentation and I will need to do an intro video this weekend. The website is up and running but I will give you the URL monday. The bug tracking system is ready so is the license server. For the tests I did it's as fast as Nuke, and sometimes faster. But we'll see how it runs on huge scenes. #joscompositor
So you are a Nuke user and you think you wouldn't want to use JOS compositor because you use too many precisous gizmos? I got you covered... :-) #joscompositor
My compositor should get in beta maybe next week. It now has a name: JOS, for my company, Jungle of Sharks. It supports OCIO, ACES, Cryptomatte, EXRs, 8, 16 or 32 bits, QuickTime and MP4, roto and paint, 2d and 3d tracking, keying, openFX, animation, many languages for naming nodes and taking notes (but the software is in English), expressions, python, horizontal or vertical workflows, AI assistance with built-in MCP server, and for 3D, live link with Blender, all UDS based, Material X, OpenPBR, OSL, Hydra delegate and I can even render in Cycles!!! And a few surprises too... But mostly, a kick ass UI. #jos
Ever had this problem in Blender 5.2 where the gizmos gets flattened in Z? Restart didn't work #b3d
Little teaser of my compositing software. Nuke compatible (except for the proprietary or licensed node like Keylight, Furnace etc). OCIO, ACES, all the Blender nodes that are not in Nuke, roto, paint, cryptomatte, caching, MCP server built-in and openFX compatible too! All features are in place, now it's debugging time. It will take a while. How much would you pay for this? #compositing #nuke #fusion #b3d
Working on my own compositor! Day 1 and it's already looking good. ChatGPT all the way, because I ran out of Claude credits yesterday... and ChatGPT today also... But I'm so impressed that I can create my own software without seeing a single line of code. All in C#.
So, here's Steven Spielberg's personal phone number. 1-213-555-STEVEN. You can tell him that he should be ashamed of "A Steven Spielberg film" in the opening credits. I mean come on. The guy is "only directing". He doesn't write, he doesn't act, he doesn't do the music, the editing, the VFX... Pffft... No merits. He only tells people what to do and other people do it for him. And if he's not happy he asks for retakes. No respect, shame on him. I can give you Michael Bay and Tarantino's numbers if you want. Good friends of mine. (And no, I'm not comparing myself to Steven Spielberg, I'm just pushing some of your reasonings to the extreme) ;-)
Ideas are creation. Programming is execution. Without the idea, there's nothing. GTP will not spontaneously start making a compositing software. Programmers can do both, have ideas and execute them. I lack the competence to execute my ideas. So I use a TOOL to do it. Just look at the road map I posted earlier. Is anyone of you here capable of doing this? If yes, you are an absolute genius. Wanna help? Of course you won't. Doesn't mean you have to spit on those who don't have your talent. But not having the capability to do something doesn't make you an idiot. I could come up with a wonderful melody but I can't orchestrate it. I can only sing it. Many of you can't seem to distinguish the difference between creating and executing. I create the software with my ideas, my directions. GTP or Claude executes it. It's two different things.
Ok I will try to reply to many questions at the same time. First of all, if you are anti AI, go complain somewhere else. Those who say "just learn how to program", this is like saying "you want to sail? Just learn how to build a cruise ship". Those saying I didn't do it, GTP did it, yes, but GTP is a tool and I'm the one telling it what I need. I call the shot. Someone gave a burger analogy in the comments and got it wrong. I didn't buy a burger and called it mind. I told the chef which ingredients I wanted, what kind to cooking I want. What extras I want in the burger. I added sweet potato fries instead of regular one. I gave the cook a recipe for a special sauce and he made it all for me. That make it my creation even if I didn't make it myself. Just like an architect will not build the skyscraper but it's still his/her creation. I will not argue anymore about that.
Yesterday GPT created a roadmap for the development of the full software, covering everything all the way to deep compositing. It's insane. Just the caching system for realtime playback is a specialty by itself. I'm not doing a Solitaire game here. Roadmap here: dropbox.com/scl/fi/9aisoc690…
Why not just use Natron (or contribute to it) or Resolve (Fusion)? Natron is a carbon copy attempt to reproduce Nuke 1:1. Same UI, same everything. Nuke's UI is like Maya's. Outdated and sometimes inefficient. I want something more 2026 than 2006. I use ChatGPT/Claude because I'm not a programmer so I couldn't help even if I wanted to.
Fusion, I have it, I hate it. I can't stand the UI.
Blender Bob not using Blender for compositing? Yeah, Iove using Blender... as a 3D software. But Blender is a 3D software with some compositing capabilities. It's good for some small jobs but nobody in VFX would use it for a feature film. No offense to the programmers but the UI is just not cutting it and it lacks too many features. Anybody who used Nuke on a professional level will agree with me. I love that it's integrated into the viewport for live compositing thought. And Blender doesn't support OpenFX, a big show stopper.
I want the user to be able to make custom nodes like in geo nodes where you could combine many nodes together with input and output sockets, for repetitive tasks and cleaner UI. It would be like collapsing a backdrop with In and Out socket.
As for Nuke, the full version is insanely expansive and the Indy version doesn't allow you to share your scripts or import/export to the full version. No collaboration possible. I hope that answers your questions
Ever applied transformations in Blender by mistake and regreted it? I'm here to help. #b3d

This clip featuring The Police’s drummer may in a way explain what is going on now with VFX and AI. Conclusion: there are still drummers today. facebook.com/share/v/18hncFu…
For my Blender project timer extension, I added a total time across all versions. It supports .001 or _v001 naming conventions. Check my previous post on the timer for more info

Two AI companies contacted me to review their products. This would be done in the context of a real VFX/animation pipeline, not just a cool demo that shows everything is so wonderful. That's part of my dealings with them. I say whatever I want. I will not get censored and I won't say things I disagree with. I will show the good, the bad and they ugly, even if they pay me to make the clip (not much by the way). Every time I mention AI on X I get bombarded with hate messages. But in VFX, AI is here to stay. So what are your thoughts. Be polite. :-)
Free timer tool for Blender so you know to the minute how long you worked on a file. Like all my addons, it's free. Download the release, drag and drop in the viewport to install. Share if you think this could be useful for the community. github.com/riouxr/BB_Project… #b3d
Little Monday complaining. Not a show stopper but an annoyance. Ever have to deal with this? #b3d
