Things like spin rates and groundstroke speed often get shown on broadcast but they're pretty incomplete in isolation. But if you capture each stage of a groundstroke you start to get a much fuller picture of the shot and the differences. For e.g it'll probably surprise people that Medvedev, one of the flatter forehand hitters, has the highest avg forehand net clearance of the Top 10. But he makes contact from further back, hits the ball more slowly than his peers, and yet still lands his shots pretty deep (reduced magnus effect forcing ball down compared to higher-spin peers). It's a pretty distinct shot shape to most of the rest of the top 10 and it's also a good example of how different contact inputs (contact point, speed, spin) can affect the outputs (net clearance and depth)

Hard to quantify what it’s brought to community in 5 yrs-from supporting young people to relaxed screenings for neurodivergent customers. & returned a real buzz to the high st.

I was on Radio 4 at 6.45am to explain why. It's an unintended consequence of post-Brexit expansion that made mid-skilled jobs (eg electricians etc) eligible

Many are claiming this analysis proves that Scotland’s 48% top tax rate reduced revenue. While it’s useful analysis, the data doesn’t support such a definitive conclusion.
Here’s why we should treat it with some caution🧵

Scotland raised its top income tax rate to 48% to make the rich pay more.
New HMRC data suggests the result may have been the opposite: Scotland collected about £22m less.
We can't be sure, but Scotland may have fallen over the Laffer curve.

Labour Force Survey numbers have seen a small update today by the @ONS, increasing population estimates while not making much difference to employment rates. But last week's migration numbers – which won't be reflected until 2025 – reduce our rate estimate by adding an extra ~340,000 to the adult population.

People tend to think there are more immigrants in their country than there really are.
In the United States, for example, the average person believes that 33% of people were not born there. However, official estimates from government agencies show that the figure is just 15% — less than half as many.
In Japan, people guess that 10% of the population are immigrants, but the accurate figure is around 2%. For every 5 immigrants people think exist, there is only one in reality.
As the chart shows, this mismatch is common everywhere. The data comes from the 2023 Ipsos Perils of Perception report.

We've been asked several times how a £40bn tax rise would compare to historic post-election Budgets, so sharing here for info:
A £40bn tax rise in 2028/29 would be ~1.25% of GDP. Bigger than Osborne in 2010 (0.5%) & Brown in 2002 (0.9%), but smaller than Lamont in 1993 (1.4%).
