American study but relatable to most jurisdictions even the lil 'ol #IsleofMan There's a very real equality problem in transport and urban planning and time and again is overlooked in the 'noise' of trying to change anything to do with driving habits.
2023 study: “Our thesis is that a primary cause of the rise in mental disorders is a decline over decades in opportunities for children and teens to play, roam, and engage in other activities independent of direct oversight and control by adults."

We are now in a brand new world where policies that were never going to happen are being “ cancelled “ or where we are being saved from “ sinister” practices that don’t actually exist. That’s called conspiracy … #CPC2023

U.K. has some of the worst public transport in the western world (outside of London village) & intimidating/hostile roads for anyone outside of a car. Being a 'nation of drivers' is not something to be particularly proud of as a PM of a party in power for 13 years. #LittleBritain
We are a nation of drivers. Most of us use a car every day and, for many, life would be difficult without their car. But too often, drivers feel under attack. That changes today with a long-term plan to improve drivers' experience on the road. Here’s how 👇🧵

Here’s me thinking the @Conservatives wanted to take us back to the 1970s with #Brexit. Turns out they want to go back to 1960 #GTTO
Exclusive: Rishi Sunak expected to set out a 'Plan for Motorists' on Monday that would limit councils' powers in areas including 20mph speed limits, bus lanes, and enforcing road infractions with number plate-recognising cameras. theguardian.com/politics/202…

4 years after Tynwald adopted the new evidence led road safety strategy the silence is deafening on speed limits. Either adopt 'Safe Systems' in full @IOMGovernment or review your own strategy. Doing the same thing and expecting a different result isn't a great look.

Editorial piece on '15 minute cities' in @iomnewspodcast suggesting that this wouldn't be a vote winner 'because less parking' when time and again it's demonstrated to be the opposite. Surprised a pub option isn't on there though...
🧵 15-minute cities: are they a fad or the future of urban living? Conspiracy theorists aside, new polling shows the policy is popular. But outside of dense cities like London, their scope may be limited My feature in today’s @thetimes thetimes.co.uk/article/9aeb6…

Jersey could take inspiration from the Netherlands when it comes to promoting safe and sustainable travel, according to @Cycle4Jersey. They made the comments after the @Cycling_Embassy's Shelley Bontje gave a talk at the invitation of @architecturejsy. jerseyeveningpost.com/news/2…

How we move can be part of the solution to a number of societal issues. If only we knew how to start the process of enabling it... 🤔 @IOMGovernment @christhomasiom @DanDavies_IOMG
Report shows the cost of obesity in UK is £58bn a year. For Wales that is £2.9bn. So if the national 20mph provides for more active travel resulting in just a 2% reduction in obesity that will save Wales £58m pa and a huge reduction in load on NHS. frontier-economics.com/uk/en…

BREAKING: Germany has just announced UNLIMITED public transport anywhere in the country will cost just £1.40 PER DAY. Officials say the policy is aimed at cutting CO2 emissions and helping with the cost of living. Anyone else think our government should do something similar?

Replying to @robbleden
'Sign only' default 20mph should be the starting point for any jurisdiction serious about achieving #VisionZero and is evidenced to: ✅ Be low cost ✅ Reduce average speed ✅ Reduce emissions ✅ Reduce casualties ✅ Improve our urban spaces ✅ Improve traffic flow at peak hours
