Billing in Rails 8 is out.
126 pages on the parts that get messy once “just add Stripe” meets a real Rails app: plans, Checkout, entitlements, trials, upgrades/downgrades, cancellation, failed payments, reconciliation, and testing.
Includes a working Rails reference implementation + Agent Companion.
There’s a free sample on the site, and BILLINGLAUNCH takes 20% off during launch week.

The craziest thing about the @marclou and @denk_tweets beef is that people all over X are vehemently picking sides.
I’m just sitting here with 🍿 watching it all play out. Seem decent points from both sides and hyperbolic ones too.
🤷🏻♂️
I spent way too many agent sessions correcting Pay gem code. Invented APIs, missing webhooks, all of it.
Started documenting what actually worked instead of repeating myself every session.
That eventually turned into how I use AGENTS.md today.

Billing in Rails 8 has been out for about a week now.
The launch discount ends tomorrow, so probably worth mentioning that again before I forget and it quietly expires.
BILLINGLAUNCH takes 20% off Billing in Rails 8, Webhooks in Rails, and Build a SaaS App in Rails 8.

I also spent some time building a completely unnecessary little game.
Tiny Opponents starts with Rock Paper Scissors (and more), except the computer remembers how you play.
It has early-90s-computer-lab energy because I am a 90s kid...deal with it.

I wrote a follow-up to “Programming Tutorials Are Dead.”
I still like books and technical articles. The weird part now is getting to the end of something useful and then having all that context stop right there.
I want to understand the idea, then give the useful parts to an agent sitting in my actual codebase.
Programming Tutorials Are Dead. Now What?

I wanted to be mad I am still seeing everyone’s personal opinions on the Keynote and Rails…but this was really well written.
Wrote a thing about last week's Rails World.

I tend to waste tokens on the weekend, but I kind of feel good about this one…a fun idea that I had for like 15 years…and almost all for fun.
I still want technical books and articles.
What feels outdated is getting to the end of one and realizing the useful part stops there.
If I learned something useful, I want to bring that expertise into the repo with me and let an agent help apply it to the code I already have.

It's been a hot minute since I posted some rage-bait...but...

As far as usage per work goes…6.1-sol is him. Or at least however they’re subsidizing it in their opaque usage numbers…but for now I won’t complain.
I’m not popular enough to get it often, but damn something about the AI slop replies is so infuriating.
If the capacity exists, Claude offering a free immediate reset while codex/open-ai have downtime would be a tremendous flex.

r/rails on Reddit is still posting, hourly, with their opinions on how @dhh is the worst, he ruined Rails, where do we go from here with Rails, blah blah blah. Can’t wait for this to blow over and be a place where tech articles and links to libraries start being the norm again.
I just had an agent tell me it has the same reaction of losing focus reading an article. WTF. GPT-5.6 can have ADHD?
