You can’t write for other people. You can’t write for the left or the right, this religion or that religion, or this belief or that belief. You have to write the way you see things. ~ Ray Bradbury Intellectual integrity is the ability to see the world as it is, not as you want it to be. ~ Peter Drucker

Cultivate extreme indifference to both praise and blame because praise will lead you to vanity, and blame will lead you to self-pity, and both are bad for writers. ~ John Berryman Since pen is mightier than sword, it's safe to assume that the Gita was composed for writers.

When you lose your appetite for food you lose your appetite for life. People on GLP-1 have this absence of gusto in them that makes them poor companions. They are almost as unpleasant to be with as longevity-health optimizers.

Can AI be intelligent and still feel nothing? My colleague @rmnth’s weekend special for @FoundingF provides a useful way into this question: seven thinkers who disagree about what consciousness is—and what it would take for a machine to have it. A short thread 🧵

In real life the hare wins every time, never the slow, patient tortoise... It is my contention that Aesop was writing for the tortoise market. ~ Anita Brookner Maybe, she is right.

SpaceX option package for new Tesla Roadster will include ~10 small rocket thrusters arranged seamlessly around car. These rocket engines dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering. Maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly …

Abandon the idea that you are ever going to finish. Lose track of the 400 pages and write just one page for each day, it helps. Then when it gets finished, you are always surprised. ~ John Steinbeck

Robert Gottlieb is considered to be one of the best editors ever. He has edited Salman Rushdie, Toni Morrison, Robert Caro, John Le Carre among others. This is what he says about editing. "Editing is simply the application of the common sense of any good reader."

இனிய தமிழ் புத்தாண்டு நல்வாழ்த்துக்கள் Happy Tamil New Year! Bharatiyar on courage. There's a line in the poem that refers to Socrates, who embodied not only wisdom but also courage. Today's doodles.

IMO, this is the most powerful use of a Bharatiyar song in a movie. Any strong contenders?

Just hanging around is so underrated. Joan Didion: It doesn’t matter to me what people say to me in the interview because I don’t trust it. Sometimes you do interviews where you get a lot. But you don’t get them from public figures. #journalism #reporting

This really is unacceptable. Technology must replace manual cleaning

Jensen said that training GPT-1 cost about twenty million dollars and today it’d cost maybe a hundred dollars. That 200,000x compression in under a decade tells the whole story right there. We are still early in the AI cycle, going through fast-paced innovation with things improving by orders of magnitude across every layer of the AI stack (hardware, models, apps/agents, etc). We cannot build a house when the ground underneath is shifting. Same way, we cannot build a product, business model or a business today when the technology landscape underneath is shifting on a weekly basis. New models are dropping every week and token prices are dropping ~10x a year. Stability is needed to build. During such phases, pioneers end up paying the pioneer tax, which explains why they don’t always make it (which I talked about in my previous post). Real winners come downstream after there is stability and the pace of change slows down. At the current pace, being early is expensive. Being early when costs are collapsing at this pace is a trap.
