Over 10,000 Ugandans are trapped in poverty & malnutrition, left with broken promises of compensation after being evicted by The New Forests Company for timber & carbon credits. Investors must uphold social standards &support these communities.

With #cop29 approving a new era for #Article6o4, there will be pressure for a new wave of national carbon policy. My brilliant colleague @EileenWakesho has suggestions on how African nations can use this as an opportunity to lead #carbonjustice

Day 1 of #COP29 and the Presidency has said that they want to skip the debates and just approve 6.4. This is not just procedurally bad, it's bad because the language isn't good enough to protect communities impacted by the carbon markets. For #carbonjustice we must #fixarticle6.

❌In violation of Tanzanian law, impacted Maasai communities were neither consulted nor compensated for being forced from their land
⚠️The ruling sets a dangerous precedent for Indigenous land rights across Tanzania and calls into question the independence of the judiciary that openly cited tourism revenues as a factor in its decision.
