Watch the EU Notary Lobby celebrate amendments by @EP_Legal rapporteur MEP @repasi to EU Inc. The Notary Lobby: "Repasi’s amendments go fully into the right direction." (art 14, etc) Instead of a 48-hour digital setup, EU Inc is about to get all the red tape it was designed to fix. Against the wills of Europeans. Against the spirit of EU Inc. Watch it. Repost to stop the crippling of EU Inc. Speak up. We need a notary-free EU Inc.

A kid who knows how to raid in WoW is unironically a better hire than 99% of non gamers. They develop team skills, coordination, leadership, how to master the respect of 40 people, how to share loot, maintaining a raid schedule, showing up on time, clear direct communication, how to get along with unique personalities, creating and executing on strategies, failing and trying again (perseverance), delayed gratification, etc. Invaluable skills are developed during raiding that are transferrable to the real world.

I win again! Newly-released Swedish data shows that the rise in autism between 2001 and 2020 was... ENTIRELY attributable to an increase in cases WITHOUT intellectual disability—less severe cases than used to be the norm! The autism epidemic is not real: we just diagnose more.

Why do Europeans not have AC everywhere? Asked Claude Code to run the numbers. Simple reason: Before 1980 it was very rare to have days above 32 degrees. The cities, the buildings, the public transport, the infrastructure as a whole isn't set up for it. But now it's extremely common to have ones above 38 degrees. Combine that with heatwaves, flashfloods, and draughts. Combine that with farming, river-logistics, river-cooling for power, cities not being built for heat, etc etc. Europe will be hit brutally by Climate Change.

18+ This is Kherson. A Russian drone operator hunts down a civilian fruit vendor and attacks him. The Russian with the controller knows and sees what he is doing. A vile sadist, a subhuman, deliberately steers the drone at the poor man. Reportedly, he survived.

Imagine a 19-year-old scrolling TikTok. She watches a creator list five "signs you have undiagnosed anxiety." She recognizes three in herself. By the end of the week, she's describing herself as anxious to her friends. A month later, she's avoiding situations she used to handle fine. What went wrong? In a new paper by my PhD student Dasha Sandra, titled "Why mental health awareness can harm: Converging explanations for a societal problem", we argue that well-meaning mental health awareness can backfire, and we identify how. Four separate literatures (concept creep, nocebo effects, prevalence inflation, and illness self-labeling) have been circling the same problem from different angles. We show they converge on three mechanisms: 1.Awareness lowers the threshold for what counts as a disorder. 2. It trains people to scan their inner lives for symptoms and reinterpret normal distress as pathology. 3. Once someone adopts an illness identity, they behave in ways that confirm and deepen it. The evidence is wide. Learning that loneliness is harmful makes solitude feel worse. Learning that stress is harmful worsens well-being and performance. Awareness videos about fake conditions like "wind turbine syndrome" produce real headaches. Trigger warnings raise anticipatory anxiety without reducing distress. This does not mean awareness should stop. It means awareness can have unintended consequences, including manufacturing the suffering it tries to prevent. Inoculating people against these mechanisms works, and we already have evidence it does. Link to paper: michael-inzlicht.squarespace…

The PS3 days were such an interesting time in gaming. For example, Burnout Paradise had this neat feature where you could plug in a webcam, and when you wreck someone it would send a photo of you to them, you could flip them off or point and laugh for a photo, or. As majority of players did, have it send a photo of your penis to the person you wrecked. Not only would it send them that photo of your penis in game, it would also save it to their hard drive where you could then print it out via the print feature.

Buying a new car is an act of philanthropy. Rory Sutherland made the case on the Alex O'Connor's podcast: when you buy a shiny new luxury vehicle, you take the massive depreciation hit so someone much poorer than you can drive essentially the same car a few years later for half the price. Same goes for iPhones, computers, watches — anything. The rich buy it first, absorb the biggest loss, and everyone else gets the upgraded version later at a steep discount. His takeaway: we should probably build statues to people who buy things new. They’re quietly subsidizing the rest of society. Have you ever thought about the fact that buying new is basically philanthropy for the second-hand market — or does that idea flip how you see depreciation and status?

Sorry but Europe needs to speak & act with one foreign policy or might as well shut up. In the current world nobody cares what Spain, Italy, and soon also UK or Germany thinks or says about anything. Either way stronger unionifaction or federalization.

Last quarter I rolled out Microsoft Copilot to 4,000 employees. $30 per seat per month. $1.4 million annually. I called it "digital transformation." The board loved that phrase. They approved it in eleven minutes. No one asked what it would actually do. Including me. I told everyone it would "10x productivity." That's not a real number. But it sounds like one. HR asked how we'd measure the 10x. I said we'd "leverage analytics dashboards." They stopped asking. Three months later I checked the usage reports. 47 people had opened it. 12 had used it more than once. One of them was me. I used it to summarize an email I could have read in 30 seconds. It took 45 seconds. Plus the time it took to fix the hallucinations. But I called it a "pilot success." Success means the pilot didn't visibly fail. The CFO asked about ROI. I showed him a graph. The graph went up and to the right. It measured "AI enablement." I made that metric up. He nodded approvingly. We're "AI-enabled" now. I don't know what that means. But it's in our investor deck. A senior developer asked why we didn't use Claude or ChatGPT. I said we needed "enterprise-grade security." He asked what that meant. I said "compliance." He asked which compliance. I said "all of them." He looked skeptical. I scheduled him for a "career development conversation." He stopped asking questions. Microsoft sent a case study team. They wanted to feature us as a success story. I told them we "saved 40,000 hours." I calculated that number by multiplying employees by a number I made up. They didn't verify it. They never do. Now we're on Microsoft's website. "Global enterprise achieves 40,000 hours of productivity gains with Copilot." The CEO shared it on LinkedIn. He got 3,000 likes. He's never used Copilot. None of the executives have. We have an exemption. "Strategic focus requires minimal digital distraction." I wrote that policy. The licenses renew next month. I'm requesting an expansion. 5,000 more seats. We haven't used the first 4,000. But this time we'll "drive adoption." Adoption means mandatory training. Training means a 45-minute webinar no one watches. But completion will be tracked. Completion is a metric. Metrics go in dashboards. Dashboards go in board presentations. Board presentations get me promoted. I'll be SVP by Q3. I still don't know what Copilot does. But I know what it's for. It's for showing we're "investing in AI." Investment means spending. Spending means commitment. Commitment means we're serious about the future. The future is whatever I say it is. As long as the graph goes up and to the right.

I talk often about false US memes that obscure and distort who we are as Europeans. But, sometimes outsiders see the essence of us much more clearly than we can see and are willing to speak it aloud ourselves. Obama as President perfectly described Europe. We must stand united.
