This one's for builders: hooks.bitsocial.net
The React hooks that power @5chanapp and @getseedit.
Feeds, communities, threads, accounts: build your own decentralized social app on the Bitsocial network.
Full docs, a live playground, and llms.txt for AI agents.
idk if anyone still codes or understands what AI is doing out there, but if you do, check out this new site I made: hooks.bitsocial.net
it's the React library @5chanapp and @getseedit are built on, so you can build your own decentralized social app on Bitsocial.
and if you don't, it has full docs and llms.txt so your AI agent can build it for you.
why are people surprised Balaji who advocated for tech zionism would kick out indigenous farcaster users? Its right up there with the ideology
interesting how Farcaster wanted to decentralize social media in the beginning and ended up being more centralized than most centralized social media lool.
Thats what you get for not building a maximally censorship resistant design

farcaster got bought yesterday by @balajis's @ns. the main app went read-only for anyone who didn't sign the new rules, and two validators got swapped the same day.
that's what happens when a few parties run the parts that matter. on bitsocial, there's nothing to buy.
every bitsocial community is owned by its creator's keypair and runs its own node. it sets its own rules and its own spam challenges, and nobody above it can override them.
any bitsocial app can read any bitsocial community, so there's no "main app" to capture. readers help seed what they read, so getting popular doesn't make a community more expensive to run.

Turns out the "forkable open source client" that Balaji's Farcaster advertises doesn't work anymore. It's accessing their centralized APIs which require you to agree to their social contract 👏
another nail in the coffin for larping "decentralized social" farcaster. We said this from the beginning, only way decentralized social can survive is by having a p2p that is resilient to takeovers and is easily self hostable
why do I have the feeling we're gonna have to sign a an eternal pledge to serve as Balajis minions in the next network statewar to not get banned by farcaster

Announcing Bitsocial, an open-source P2P protocol for social apps. Communities are private property and set their own rules and mods. No global admins.
@5chanapp, an imageboard built on it, now lets anyone upload an image and post from a browser. No node to install: 5chan.app
5chan's goal is to replace 4chan. Same experience, same nostalgia, but global admins are out of the equation.
5chan can go further than 4chan ever could. On 4chan, everyone has to comply with rules arbitrarily decided by global admins. On 5chan, if you disagree with a board's moderation, you create your own competing board and run it however you see fit (desktop app today, web soon). Boards compete with each other, and competition is key.
Anyone can build a social app on Bitsocial, and every app shares the same network of communities and users. Imageboards come first because they're the simplest social media to decentralize: anonymous posts, no accounts, threads that expire. Get one niche working, then expand. Next is Reddit, with @getseedit.

Big day, years in the making.
Announcing 5chan.app v0.10.0 with media uploads on web. 5chan is finally starting to feel like 4chan.
Next up is board creation on web, coming soon.

New Bitsocial Stats website is live: stats.bitsocial.net
You can easily see a breakdown of Bitsocial apps (currently just two, 5chan and Seedit): communities online, posts, users, service uptime, etc.

Notice the grift didn't spread onchain, it spread on centralized social media. Bots, paid KOLs, and ad-driven feed algos all worked to manipulate social consensus.
It's killing cypherpunk crypto, and thus freedom, perhaps by design.
I found an optimization in our Bitsocial code for helia where instead of waiting for IPNS providers to announce they're subscribed to pubsub topic, we just fetch them if they announce providing the cid of the topic without waiting for their subscriptionchange gossipsub emission.
Been building Trustless voting over libp2p pubsub, built for @bitsocialnet, No server, no admins, no leader. Rules for voting are arbiterary, it could be wallet signed token balance check or anything that can be coded really. Peers gossip their votes peer-to-peer as a CRDT
a vote can never be dropped or forged, only added. The rules live in the topic, so the network validates itself.
Still under WIP, but seems promising so far

all this talk on X about how the decentralized social dream is dead is dumb. Farcaster has never been a good attempt at it to begin with. For starters you needed to download the mobile app and pay $5 to sign up, can't even do that on your PC.
Curious about Farcaster, can you elaborate on it?
Since y'all spammed my timeline full of #Ethereum existential crises, here's a letter I sent to EF leadership in a year and half ago 😬.

"Why do we need p2p social media? X doesn't censor anymore"
absolutely fucking ridiculous.
@AilliaLink's been soft banned for no formal reason, unable to do anything outside contacting support. their response? a full ban for "inauthentic behavior."
@X @Premium it's an error, a disgrace and you should immediately revise this. #freeAilliA
