In 2026, let's walk together, finding every opportunity (and make our own if none are found) to hold candid conversations on oppression, to become aware, remain informed, and do the heavy lifting required. Let's find a way to cultivate hope, dismantle despair, summon courage, suppress ego, think critically, extend compassion, and ignite creative endeavor in each of us - You know, 'the stuff of great humanity. There's a wonderful generation coming up, looking for our example; we can do this.

#BREAKING: An Ohio appeals court unanimously ruled Thursday that the state’s EdChoice private-school voucher program violates the Ohio Constitution, affirming a lower court decision in a lawsuit backed by hundreds of public school districts. nbc4i.co/4zABVUI

Case now goes to the OH Supreme Court but the ruling is a big deal. The fact that vouchers mostly fund kids already in private school could turn out to be a big legal liability because it’s what sets up a separate state system. Also, the decision explicitly frames private schools’ right to choose within its legal argument (the first time as far as I know) The “use of 'EdChoice' is misleading, given that the school 'choice' is with the private schools not the parents.”

Live streaming an execution isn’t about punishing the man for the blood he spilled, it’s about stoking the blood lust of those who watch.

Pete Hegseth announced that the Department of Defense would publicly execute Nidal Hasan and live stream the execution. There is no doubt that Nidal Hasan is a murderer who took the lives of 13 people and injured dozens. He should face justice for that. But a public execution? Here in the United States? It’s the kind of thing Iran and the Taliban do. Is this who we want to be associated with? Pete Hegseth’s campaign of “maximum lethality” and his comments about “killing people” and now his desire to publicly execute a prisoner indicate to me that his expiration date in this job has long passed. He should be removed immediately. And this administration needs to reevaluate its priorities. How about they trade glorifying violence for solving some problems and delivering for the American people? We need to be reminded of the nation we can be at our best. As President Ronald Reagan said “compassion, vision, and a fundamental sense of decency are the hallmarks of our national character.” That is not what we’ve seen from this President and his administration. We need to find that again.

TEXAS — @jamestalarico: “Why do we have a trillionaire when veterans are sleeping on the streets? The reason poverty exists is not because we can’t feed the poor, it’s because we can’t satisfy the rich.” (From @TeamTalaricoHQ)

An American president casually accepting the destruction of Los Angeles and San Diego as “a small price to pay.” A staggering betrayal of the most basic duty of the presidency.

This should outrage every American. This is the president of the United States telling Iran to bomb American cities. I live in Los Angeles, but that’s beside the point. Tommorow it could be your city. My fellow Americans, this is not normal. This is not funny. This behavior should ring alarm bells for us all!
Trump: "With the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay ... let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."

NEW: President Trump directly told Russ Vought to find the funds to finance the ads glorifying him. The agency’s general counsel and WH counsel both signed off on the move as legal. The president and WH chief of staff spoke to the DHS secretary. nytimes.com/2026/10/02/us/po…

The Trump administration appears to have changed its AI chatbot so that it no longer debunks Trump lies. Yesterday: It said Biden won the 2020 election and there's no indication of widespread fraud. Today: Says it can't answer such questions.

I wrote about this—and the effort proposed by three public school experts to create a safe harbor out of it—in a newsletter last month. Bottom line: move charters to district management.
The Supreme Court split 4-4, ending an attempt to open a Catholic charter school last year. Now a federal judge has cleared the way for a Jewish charter school. on.wsj.com/4ABKa4e

After claiming its publicly funded campaign-style ads promoting Trump were mere “public service announcements,” the administration uses public money to re-run an actual Trump campaign video from the 2024 election; instead of the 2024 campaign logo and phone number, it now says “paid for by the US government”: cnn.com/2026/09/27/politics/…
