The exposure of Bickle/IHOP started a snowball of all kinds of disorientation and pain for me. At that point, all the heartache issued from one man, one place, one culture. But the subsequent exposure of other ministers, culminating this last week with Robert Morris, has opened my eyes to why you do what you do, @bozlawpa. This epidemic is everywhere. Sadly, I doubt it’s shocking to you whatsoever to see leader after leader in the headlines. It’s hard to believe how deep and how far the plague of sexual/spiritual abuse has spread throughout the pulpits that claim the name of Christ. These days I often find myself asking - is anyone good? And not in a “original sin” kind of way, but in a “How can I trust anyone when the kinds of people I deemed most trustworthy keep turning out to be monsters?” kind of way. A way that leaves me feeling like Theoden in his despair, asking, “What can men do against such reckless hate?” I really don’t know the answer, but something needs to change. Power and control must diminish. Women and children must be heard, believed, cherished and protected. When will enough be enough?
