I feel Marg Gardiner has cut through the spin speak, and social jewelry that the City of Victoria's Community Safety & Wellbeing Plan has utilized in its delivery. Ultimacy the City's plan is an acknowledgement of awareness and understanding that the insanity of what has become an unwelcome fabric in our community must go. Look at the city's plan, as Phase 1, and Marg's 7 point plan the ultimate objective. With out buy in to the city's plan, we will never get to Marg's 7 points of reclaiming the community. Doing nothing is not an option. Up until the City plan, all we had was nothing, and a growing criminal element embedding itself in to the already insufferable lives of those living with addition. With commitment from all levels of Government, which has not been evident to date, this can change. The City will prove its commitment through increased enforcement of bylaws that were being inconsistently enforced, and more funding for increased policing and mental health support. Once a week sweeps and clean up will do little, 3 times a day, 7 days a week, and police walking the beat, will make it clear that the growing drug fueled culture is not the norm, nor is it going to be tolerated anymore. We are taking first steps, the wrap around services in appropriate rehabilitation centers like New Roads need to be expanded now, with destination housing and job training at the end of the journey will make a difference for those that still have the cognitive ability to regain purpose. Lets hope the Province is listening, as this is their failed experiment that got us here. cheknews.ca/opinion-victoria…

The scale of addiction, death, crime & chaos in Victoria shines a light on the catastrophic failure of radical NDP drug & soft-on-crime policies. For the past 8 years, this pro-drug, anti-police approach has opened the door for transnational crime organizations & cartels to flood the streets with deadly fentanyl. The NDP response has been to warehouse our most vulnerable who have severe mental health, brain injury & addiction issues in drug & crime-ridden "supportive housing" & provide them with "safe supply," causing the problem to explode. It is long past time for Eby to change course to stop the drugs & implement a robust recovery-focused system of care. cheknews.ca/opinion-victoria…
