Today I'm returning to Bailey Nelson as Engineering Manager which means lots of CommerceTools, Shopify and AWS but just as importantly, no Adobe or Magento
It's been a while since I was excited by something from AWS but I actually can't wait to try this.
If it works as advertised then it's going to simplify application deployment.
YES! It's out it's out, I am SO excited for this! #AWSLambda Web Functions are a game changer! A true HTTP request handler and Each execution environment handles multiple requests simultaneously (up to 128 concurrent requests per environment). Multi-region deploy, and so much more! -> aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/ann…
This still hits hard:
The most common error of a smart engineer is to optimize something that shouldn't exist.
By 2015 the industry was already full of sys admins/devs doing it because it paid well instead of being driven by passion.
A lot of "senior" devs are hacks with minimal debugging skills who keep adding code until it works rather than trying to understand why it doesn't.
Replying to @johnstilton16 @__vandos__
products of 2015 were largely build by senior programmers in the 2010s who joined the industry in the early 2000s and spent the 90s as teens honing their craft while everyone was telling them they won't amount to anything. Of cause they made fantastic things, no one was writing code because it was trendy, they all showed up because they could not stay away. Eternal September 2
I thought @Jira was bad but @Atlassian has outdone themselves adding Rovo.
It's the worst and most annoying fucking AI.
Time to switch.
The innovator's dilemma.
It's fast and cheap now. If they can keep that under control while becoming good enough then they win.
The saas apocalypse is seriously overstated by developers who don't value their time.
Business owners struggling to find time for accounting, marketing, hiring and growing their business aren't going to waste it vibe coding an app to "save a few dollars".

As of two days ago, Kill the HiPPO, the book I cowrote is now published!
Kill the HiPPO explores how bootstrapped software companies decide what feature to build next.
It's based on interviews with founders from 10 stable, mature, profitable, well-run bootstrapped software companies.
Alert: We offer neither answers nor frameworks!
Instead, we tell the stories of how the founders have encountered headaches with overbuilding, got mired in tech debt, and found themselves in overly long development cycles - and how they went about solving those problems.
More info at killthehippo.com/ - or search for "Kill the HiPPO" on Amazon.

The only thing worse than being awake at 3am when you should be sleeping is still being awake at 4am. 😫🥱💤
