From Salah’s Liverpool years there are three Salah stats when they combined Liverpool usually won the game or at least didn’t drop points:
- Salah with more than 55 touches
- Salah with more than 15 touches in the opposition box
- Salah with more than 5 shots
The observation is simple when Liverpool anchored Salah and he managed to get involved in the game, Liverpool got results.
Yesterday vs Ferencvaros, Salah had 76 touches, 16 touches in opposition box, and 6 shots. But, Trabzonspor still lost as the chemistry between him and his teammates is still missing.
Anchoring Salah and him getting involved without an operating system around him and players on the same wavelength will not work. This was his problem at the National Team (Egypt) for years.
It’s important to note the last time Salah started a game was July 7 (6 weeks ago) and had no preseason (vacationing without a club) and only played 30 minutes vs Kasimpasa with his new teammates.
Salah was always a physical and fitness monster so he managed to complete 90 minutes yesterday, although his game was still good his football is still rusty and he is discovering his new teammates skills level, habits, strengths and weaknesses.
Putting it differently Salah is now having his preseason and things will fully click in a couple of weeks.
The drama queens, trolls and tabloid media will try to create a negative narrative, but things will click soon for him and the team.
Below is Salah’s heatmap from yesterday (A) compared to his heatmaps from his his last 2 league seasons at Liverpool. Looks similar, but he is slightly less wide at Trabzonspor I imagine the 442 in the 2nd half is reflected in the map.

A lot of people have judged this transfer based on what *they* projected Salah should or would do, rather than what *he* wants and needs at this stage of his career after feeling forced out at Liverpool, where he planned on retiring.
Salah’s intention was to remain in Europe, at an ambitious club that genuinely wanted him to play a leading role in helping them win things, where he could still provide meaning and had a passionate fanbase to feed off, in a city where his family could feel comfortable and not restricted.
There was a desire to experience something new. Signing for another Premier League club was a no, and after already succeeding at Fiorentina and Roma, Serie A did not appeal to Salah in the way it did to those who romanticised a return.
Trabzonspor was not the best financial package put in front of him this summer, neither was it the one that could most supercharge his brand. The Saudi Pro League presented the former, while at least four MLS clubs pitched the latter.
Trabzonspor also handled their pursuit quietly and respectfully, refusing to even disclose talks where happening until an agreement was reached. They didn’t play every detail out in the press like Besiktas, whose motives were judged to be more PR-driven. How they handled things were neatly summed up by their ‘didn’t want him anyway’ stance

Spor; kardeşlik, barış ve centilmenliktir. Bir spor kulübünü ve milyonlarca taraftarını "terörist" olarak hedef göstermek ne ifade özgürlüğüdür ne de masum bir yorumdur. Bu söylem açık bir nefret söylemi ve ayrımcılıktır.
Söz konusu paylaşım yalnızca bu şahsın bireysel hezeyanlarını değil, içinde yetiştiği aile ve toplumsal iklimin de bir yansımasıdır.
