RHMS Grade 8 students had the opportunity to work alongside an arborist to explore the fascinating world of trees. The students explored the RHMS school grounds, learned how to identify different tree species, including the honey locust and the little - leaf linden and discovered how to assess tree health. They also gained a deeper understanding of the essential role trees play in supporting healthy ecosystems and our urban environment.

RHMS Grade 8 students are exploring the element of value in their Fine Arts unit, developing their artistic techniques using graphite pencils, charcoal, and blending tools. Through a series of value studies, students have practiced creating highlights, shadows, tints and tones to bring three dimensional forms to life on a flat surface. From spheres and fabric folds to shaded rock formations and still life compositions, each exercise strengthens their understanding of light, depth and contrast.
As students prepare for their final mixed-media masterpieces, they will combine black and white shading with colour values. RHMS Grade 5 students enjoyed an exciting outdoor learning experience at Cold Creek Conservation Area. Through interactive games, team-building challenges, and the climbing tower, students bonded together to strengthen their communication skills and discover one another’s abilities.

RHMS Grade 2 to 4 students came together to participate in the Terry Fox Run, reflecting on the legacy of a Canadian hero whose courage, perseverance and determination continue to inspire people around the world.
As part of their Language curriculum, the students’ first writing project this term was a research- based piece about Terry Fox. Through this unit, the students developed literacy and research skills while exploring important character traits and learning how one person’s determination can make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

RHMS Montessori students enjoyed an exciting scientific adventure during the Mad Science onsite workshop. Through hands-on experiments and interactive demonstrations, the students explored the wonders of science, discovering how laboratory equipment is used.
The students witnessed volcanic explosions and the young palaeontologists also uncovered fascinating facts about dinosaurs and their eating habits before taking part in the exciting Mad Science Dino Dig.

RHMS Grade 6 students enjoyed an exciting Cedar Glen excursion, where they stepped outside of the traditional classroom to learn, explore, and work together. RHMS grade 7 & 8 classes enjoyed a workshop run by PhD students from York University. Our presenters taught our students about the real world research they are currently involved in at York's School of Kinesiology and Health Science. They then led our students through the steps of the scientific method as they had the opportunity to design and carry out an experiment on the topic of muscle strength and fatigue. Students enjoyed the opportunity to work with dynamometers, a tool which measures hand-grip strength.

RHMS Grade 7 students kicked off the first week of school by pushing through numbers and working together during an engaging 100 Numbers team challenge to get students talking.
Working in small groups, the teams were tasked to find and circle numbers 1 through 100 in consecutive order. While the task appeared simple at first, students quickly discovered that success required more than just speed, it called for effective communication, collaboration, focus and strategic thinking.
