When I was a kid Catholics couldn't eat meat on Friday. Why did that church? Contradiction?
When ignorant people say that the Pope has "contradicted" other Popes, they are wrong. The law of non-contradiction, which is the foundation of all reason, states:
"A statement cannot be true and false at the same time and in the same respect."
So, when a Pope speaks on a topic, at a different time, and/or in a different respect than previous Popes, there is no "contradiction".
People who say this reveal that they are either (a) not intelligent or (b) intentionally misleading. Either way, they are false.
In fact, the great benefit of the papacy is that living Popes provide the Church with spiritual direction in the constantly changing circumstances in which we live.
