Last week the board running Mississippi’s public universities announced it had increased the salary of the state’s university commissioner to an insane $463,050 per year. This is the same commissioner who allowed the universities to create their crazy DEI programs, which cost taxpayers millions. Same commissioner who allowed the creation of an LGBT clinic at the state’s university hospital, which gave hormones to minors, permanently damaging their bodies. Same commissioner who allowed taxpayer-funded universities to create pointless woke programs, like gender studies, where students take classes like “Gender and Zombies” or “Queering Television,” whatever those are. The lead university commissioner in Texas earns far less, if you’re looking for a comparison for what this position usually pays in other states. And now, thanks to the raise, our university commissioner makes more than eight times the median Mississippi household income. This is the kind of illogical spending that drives taxpayers nuts. The next governor should put an end to these bloated administrative salaries and give tax relief back to normal taxpayers. We’ve got the second-highest grocery tax in the country, the second-highest car tag fees in the country, and property taxes that feel like they go up every year. Our money should be going to cut those taxes, not pay a guy’s salary who has powerful friends. My guess is you won’t hear many politicians talk about this. It’s mainly because our entire political establishment just wants to be buddies with one another. Enough of that. We need someone willing to take on the good ole boy’s club on behalf of working families.
