A few reasons kids turn off their cameras (as told to me by kids):
1. Other kids take unflattering screenshots and use them on SM.
2. Siblings interrupting zooms.
3. They have to help younger siblings also learning from home.
Go easy on them - they’re not all trying to cheat.

Having empathy & humanizing your course doesn’t decrease the rigor. Instead, students are likely to work harder & put more into the course because they know you care. I had a student say they were motivated to put 100% into our course because I was putting in 110%. #humanizeOL
