21 PAGES. Let’s not act like #SaveTheGame doesn’t get us what we want.
The power of our words in realtime.
Let's talk about 2K! We're noticing the narrative around community server projects having "delay" so let's deep dive with Revival about how 2K's servers work and why Delay will never be eliminated, specifically for in-gameplay networking.
2K has been using a familiar networking protocol called the "Lockstep Engine" for online gameplay since 2K14 (that's as far as we looked.) This engine is still in effect in 2K's recent titles. The main topic we're gonna be touching on is DELAY. It's also part of why we've been capped at 30-60FPS on 2K Titles since the beginning of time. Despite hardware getting way better.
Delay is infamous on NBA 2K14 -> NBA 2K27. All of 2k's games give their users up to 100ms of input delay by DEFAULT. Here's how it works with our demonstration.

Jokes aside I’m thankful for Mike wang and Zach timmerman, yall put loads of pressure on these guys but I hope yall understand they don’t fully develop everything from scratch, 2K uses third party companies to craft the game as well, these are just the fall guys for others work
As we progress and look forward to @NBA2K addressing the community’s #SaveTheGame movement. There’s something special about our community and certain developers picking up these older 2K games we love and giving them the care and support they deserve.
On this topic, we’ve spoken long ago on the design of older 2K’s being built on Realistic aspects of basketball to guarantee the player’s gameplay isn’t completely unrealistic but with an arcade-esque, non-archetype-specific gameplay experience that we’ve all unknowingly loved and was slowly watered down as we progressed from 2K15 -> 2K27. We’d love for this to be a 2K standard again. It’s near impossible to enforce uber realism & RNG whilst feeling rewarding in gameplay with a controller in a player’s hand. As players, we can mesh together different ideas of gameplay variations with different animations and mechanics in the game.
For some, they couldn’t put this idea of 2K they wanted into words and resulted to plainly saying they preferred an older 2K. We want you guys to comment your favorite 2K and let us know why you think it was so fun to play and your favorite aspect about it. We’ll be giving away $1,000 to commenters to endorse the fact that your feedback means everything. Leave your Cashapp Tag alongside your comment, speak your mind, and add #SaveTheGame.

So 2K will keep the how to zen videos up but not the 10 year old game videos.. makes sense 💯
The strikes continue. All 3 of my NBA 2K17 videos (which is literally just gameplay and nothing else) have been striked and removed. This company is a fucking joke.
#SaveTheGame
Despite all the bad news, it's been cool to see the 2K community amongst eachother and collaborative once again. It's also been a while since we've seen the majority agree on one topic besides cheating.
We've seen other communities like Minecraft, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Counter Strike, and Valorant reshape their experience off of feedback. We've been showing our frustrations and wants for years and we only have dents in our wallets to show for it. It's past disrespect and is turning malicious which is concerning, considering this community is the reason they're here today. It's also so evident, the last week(s) for our community has been some of the most interactive and fun had on an NBA 2K product in years. #SaveTheGame
Honestly while we still have the audience, we'd love to delegate our development power to help 2K revive it's old titles and their series entirely alongside the community. We're also incredibly versed in 2K's legacy and semi-modern game protocol. The community doesn't want 2K itself to expire but to genuinely reshape it's formfactor because it isn't working for us in it's current state. While it has turned into a trend to downplay 2K's efforts, its undeniable, thousands of users don't complain for 0 reason.
With 2K's recent actions against our socials & platform and that we can foresee the same actions be taken against the other community projects that are active, to be safe, it's best if we temporarily pause all active online Revival Services & Downloads while we attempt to navigate this journey safely. If we can safely conclude we can operate this safely, access can be re-opened at the click of a button.
So today we're releasing Early Access Revival 17 Servers for free..
Revival removed all purchase gates, scrubbed our production sites & releases of reused public 2K assets, and now allowing anyone with a PC, Playable Specs, and a Wi-Fi Connection to play online. This was done to further comply with 2K.
The impacts this will make many wont notice, but what you'll be playing is unfinished, work in progress servers. You may feel no delay or you may feel horrible delay in-game. Updates are still coming but with the recent changes, they'll be more paced than rapid iteration of new & improved features.
