I’m pleased to announce Ms. Rachel as the recipient of the 2027 Christine King Farris Beloved Community Education Award. Named for my Aunt Christine, a lifelong educator, this award recognizes leaders who nurture children with dignity, discipline and care. Through music, early learning and meaningful connection with families, Ms. Rachel helps children learn and grow. Her commitment extends to advocating for the educational rights, safety and protection of children around the world. Every child deserves the opportunity to flourish. Ms. Rachel’s service reminds us that caring for children means supporting their learning and speaking up for their humanity. #TheKingCenter #BelovedCommunityAwards #MsRachel #KHO27

I'll be on @BBCRB at 12.50, talking about the expression 'don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs'. First recorded in English in 1692, equivalents exist in other European languages too.

“We want to sit down like anyone else.” On this day in 1960, my father joined students and local activists in a nonviolent protest against segregation at Rich’s department store in downtown Atlanta. He was among 52 people arrested for refusing to leave. They risked their freedom to challenge the humiliation and exclusion of Black people seeking equal treatment. Their courage reminds us that nonviolence requires us to confront injustice, including when it is enforced by law. Let’s honor them by refusing to accept injustice as normal and continuing the work to create the Beloved Community. #MLK #CivilRights #Nonviolence365

Sixty-two years ago, on October 14, 1964, Daddy learned that he had been selected to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He was just 35 years old. The honor recognized his leadership in the nonviolent struggle for civil rights. He accepted it on behalf of a movement whose courage and sacrifice had shown the world the power of nonviolence. Daddy’s philosophy calls us to confront injustice, transform unjust systems and affirm the dignity of every human being. It requires courage, discipline and love in action. Sixty-two years later, that work remains urgent. The responsibility to advance it remains ours. We honor my father’s legacy by practicing nonviolence in our daily lives and continuing the work to create the Beloved Community. #MLK #NobelPeacePrize #Nonviolence365 #BelovedCommunity

Also worth noting that she held herself out as the "General Counsel" of a nonprofit in California, and my understanding is that you cannot do this if you are not barred somewhere. This actually could be unauthorized practice of law. the-independent.com/news/wor…

There is NO industry that is untouched by prison labor. Not one. Men, women, and children as young as 14 make everything from clothes, furniture, electronics, and canned foods to building materials, school buses, and office supplies. Incarcerated women sew the uniforms for McDonald’s
I knew that they use prison labour for certain things, I didn’t know this one specifically.

You cannot leave prison without a documented place to stay, a job or rehabilitation program lined up, and someone to come and pick you up. There was one woman we met who was there for 2 EXTRA years at the state prison cause she had no living family and simply couldnt get a ride
"Because of Idaho’s overcrowded prison population, some women can’t access the programming that commissioners expect them to complete before they’re released... Those women remain incarcerated longer, delaying access for other women" investigatewest.org/prison-o…

There it is. This is the plan. They are going to make Ukraine the enemy and blame them for oil and gas prices. They think we are stupid.
🚨BREAKING: Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy called Zelenskyy an “ingrate” for striking Russian oil refineries, claiming he’s making life harder for Trump ahead of the midterms, as White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia nodded along. Think about that. Ukraine is attacking the infrastructure helping finance Russia’s invasion, and the concern being expressed is how it affects Trump’s political fortunes. Since when did an American president’s election calendar become the standard by which a country fighting for its survival should make military decisions?

I have no insight into the facts of this situation, but “CLAIM: (outline a claim)/FACT: (outline facts that don’t address the claim just laid out)” is not generally how fact checks work.

A reminder that alot of the candy we eat is made with women’s prison labor. Russell Stover’s factory in Kansas busses in 150 women a day via a convict leasing program to staff their candy factory.
I can’t even get excited about Halloween anymore since the entire candy industry was enshittified. Most familiar candy brands are very obviously fake garbage now, but it still costs like 10x more than it did when it was real. Everything has been ruined. theguardian.com/us-news/2026…
