ALT Effective Practice Spotlight Working with young adults. Young adults’ brains continue developing into their mid-20s. This affects decision-making, impulse control and emotional regulation. Effective engagement means recognising unique developmental needs and tailoring our approach.
ALT Relationships are key. Young adults consistently say that a positive relationship with their probation practitioner makes the biggest difference. Trust, understanding the individual’s background, and trauma-informed practice help support change.
ALT Case illustration. Ana received a 12 month community order for shoplifting. It was her first time in the justice system and she was pregnant. The probation practitioner had a good understanding of intersectionality and worked in a gender-informed way.
