It's going to take 16 years to add lanes to a highway and people have the audacity to talk about high speed rail
#BREAKING: GDOT picked a team to build 19 miles of I-285 toll lanes. A child born in 2026 could be old enough to drive before the lanes are finished. “We’ve got quite the journey ahead of us, but it’s going to be worth it,” GDOT's commissioner told AJC.

Let's go Milwaukee! ✊
Rethink 794 is a volunteer community of members from Milwaukee. Our goal is to see the east-west stretch of I-794 replaced with a human-scale, at-grade boulevard that reconnects the downtown and creates long-term benefits for the people of Milwaukee. rethink794.com/about

🚴‍♀️ Cars parked in bike lanes cause unsafe conditions for bicyclists. ✅ Keep bike lanes clear 🚗 Use legal parking & loading locations ⚠️ Hazard lights do not make a prohibited stop permissible Learn more 👉 bit.ly/3TteAVq

This is a symptom of a country that dismantled and then failed to rebuild options in safe, efficient, accessible transportation for getting from A to B, no matter the reason. "Cars for everything" is a winning strategy for no one.
If you’re flying into Austin tonight, you’re probably looking at a 1-hour or longer wait for an Uber.

It’s funny how the USA is so car oriented that doing what we did to literally every US city is so prosperous that it’s a meme elsewhere.
Imagine how much easier it would be to get around Venice if they added an elevated freeway

Bike infrastructure is elder care. With the huge number of aging Boomers, neighborhoods of all types need more bike infrastructure.

Who cares if China has 250 mph trains? We’re widening highways through the downtowns of major urban centers! Checkmate.
China's next-gen 400 km/h CR450 high-speed trains have finished the mandatory 600,000 km pre-service trial, equal to 15 trips around Earth's equator. Under Chinese rules, all-new HSR trains must pass this test and every performance criterion before carrying passengers.

Nearly every American neighborhood once had a shop you could walk to, but local retail has been zoned and regulated into near extinction. I'm on a @Parking_Reform panel at NYC Climate Week with others who want to bring it back. Free to attend, link below. ⬇️

The United States razed most of its urban core, dismantled the greatest rail system in the world, fueled all growth around car dependency, and is spending tens of billions a year widening lanes in the hope that it will solve traffic. Maddening we allow this.
They widened the highways and added toll lanes, and it still looks like this. Denver is LA now.

Could be us traveling 200 mph between major metros in this country but we’d rather building more highway lanes and hope it works.

We're the busiest corridor in the Texas Triangle. We need this.
A new study from TxDOT calls for up to eight passenger train trips per day between San Antonio and Austin. But the owner of the tracks, Union Pacific, doesn't appear to be interested. bit.ly/4vlhoRi

Removing elevated freeways in cities is an investment in the future. No one credibly looks at Hayes Valley and The Embarcadero and longs for the freeways to return, and yet removing a freeway today is still very controversial in this country.
The way we recovered Hayes Valley needs to be studied. One of the best neighborhoods in SF used to have a double decker freeway tearing through it.
