If it's October it must be #SOSUEUROPE time On my way to Amsterdam, via trains, Plane, tram!
Dear @LinkedIn, can you remind us what networking is for?
You cap 1st-degree connections at 30,000. Fine, a ceiling is a ceiling.
The old escape hatch was ugly but human: Manage invitations, find the reply button, answer the person without marrying their network. Not βconnect with everyone,β just respond. The thing our parents called manners. Mine did, anyway.
A lot of people do not want 30,000 strangers in their house.
But they still want to say: yes, I saw your note; no, I donβt have an opening; here is one useful job-search tip; yes, your profile is a fit for our role - letβs have a chat.
Since that reply path disappeared, I have been βignoringβ hundreds of people.
Not because I am cold, but because the product turned courtesy into a dead end.
Some of those messages were a job question, a search stuck in place, or a 30-second note that could have actually helped.
So I will ask it plainly: What is the point of a networking site if you cannot answer a person who reached out?
Bring the reply-without-accepting option back.
Until then, this place feels less like a professional network and more like a group project of X clickbait, TikTok clips, and Instagram filters.
We did not come here to go viral. We came here to talk to each other.
Warmly,
Someone who still thinks a reply is part of the job, and basic manners.
P.S. If the feature is hiding in a menu I have not found, consider this a very public cry for a tooltip.
Ageism was always wrong. AI is making it even clearer why. AI helps you write, research, analyze, and build faster.
But it cannot give you 20 years of pattern recognition.
It cannot replace years of dealing with customers, bad hires, failed projects, difficult managers, market crashes, and decisions that looked brilliant but failed in reality.
And it cannot instantly give you a network built over decades.
The advantage today is not being young enough to learn AI.
It is being willing to learn AI.
Someone over 50 with deep experience, a strong network, and the ability to use AI effectively can be incredibly dangerous competition.
Experience + network + AI is a multiplier.
Rejecting someone because they are βtoo oldβ or βoverqualifiedβ while AI is amplifying decades of experience?
That is a terrible way to make a hiring decision.

Can you really spot an AI-generated resume? I do not think so.
Every day, I see people claiming they can tell AI-written resumes from miles away.
I'm skeptical. But I'd love to be proven wrong.
So I built a small test.
8 versions of my own resume. Your job is to figure out which one was written by AI and which one was written by a human, aka me.

I'll collect the results and share them in a week or two.
The more people who take the test, the better the data.
Share it with your network, colleagues, friends, anyone who thinks they can tell the difference.
Let's find out if the confidence matches the skill. π
