Somehow, in certain quarters, it has come to be seen as a personal failing to devote one’s life to improving the world around you. It isn’t “downwardly mobile” to choose, after college, to be a teacher, a city councilor or an artist. It’s just a different kind of ambition.

Why ask these open-ended ‘opinion’ questions? Why not cite a specific documented undeniable example of Trumpism corruption and ask Vance to respond?
CBS: Have you seen anything inside the White House when it comes to corruption that has made you squeamish? Vance: You're asking has Donald Trump's decision-making been influenced by his business CBS: No, I'm asking have you seen anything. Vance: I've never seen anything like that from the President.

From the makers of: the car that drives into a lake and locks its doors with you inside, the car that spontaneously combusts, and the car that veers off the road and smashes into stuff before submerging you in a pond…that’s right, a car that does fast and furious tricks

Ukraine can't destroy Gazprom's pipelines because doing so inconveniences German consumers. Ukraine can't hit Russian refineries because that inconveniencs US consumer. Russia, on the other hand, can destroy Ukraine's energy grid because it inconveniences no one. Shameful.

Alex Gibney: “There was an estimate that what [Elon Musk] did by suddenly cutting USAID would cost through disease and starvation as many as 14M lives. Even if you discount that, we know within a year of those cuts where they were literally burning food going to starving children, 500K children died. This is really a crime against humanity, but he makes a joke about it, I put USAID into the woodchipper. What he put into the woodchipper were children”

This is what Tesla’s value (and Elon Musk’s net worth) is based on: Expensive gimmicks that provide zero value in the real world. This car has a 10K PSI nitrogen tank attached to it. It’s basically a flying bomb. It can never be sold, and it has zero practical use. Elon was always a fraud. But the stupid shareholders will be impressed by this worthless stunt, and they’ll buy even more shares of Tesla, making Elon even richer.

Netflix got a $930 million tax break last year from Trump’s so-called Big Beautiful Bill - a bill that also made the largest cuts to healthcare, education and nutrition in American history. “Corporations will create jobs if they get tax breaks” is a Big Lie made up by CEOs.
Netflix has laid off around 1,000 employees. This represents 6% of their workforce - the biggest layoff to date in the company's history. (Source: variety.com/2026/tv/news/net…)

WSJ today had a story about the Houthis building a new missile with Chinese parts. Russia is resupplying missile stocks directly to Iran to compensate for the ones the U.S. destroyed or damaged. And Russia's provision of intel to the IRGC for targeting U.S. forces in the Gulf comes from his own intelligence community. The Gimp in "Pulp Fiction" had more self-respect than this guy.
If you’re going to lie, lie big Of course the families of service personnel killed by Iran with the help of Russia Intel and weapons will disagree

The only way to combat the AI cheating crisis is with intensive instruction. This requires smaller class sizes and profs who aren’t teaching 5 courses a semester at 4 different colleges like many adjuncts. Cut the make-work admins, do a TT-hiring blitz. Anything else is madness.
Today I take the highly controversial position that in fact 4 year universities are supposed to be about education, not football, sex, drinking, or hiring lots of administrators, and they've lost the plot. dilanesper.substack.com/p/co…

Since Trump’s election: -Musk got $696 billion richer -Musk became the 1st trillionaire -SpaceX got $10 billion in Pentagon contracts -Tesla & SpaceX paid $0 in federal income taxes -Grok’s AI models were integrated into DoD Musk’s better off than he was 2 years ago. Are you?
BREAKING: Elon Musk has poured more than $275 million into Republicans’ fight to keep control of Congress, all since July, per FT That makes him by far the largest known donor in the midterms. Where it went: $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC backing GOP Senate candidates $76 million to his own America PAC $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, the top House GOP super PAC $10 million to the Republican Governors Association $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association The $158 million alone is one of the largest political donations in U.S. history, and more than the Democrats’ rival Senate super PAC raised from all its donors that quarter.

You said I was encouraging Europe to repress speech, a claim you cannot make based on the reporting so far because the reason for the PNG has not been disclosed by the Latvian government. You are guessing that’s the reason, which is your right, but I am not willing to speculate because what if it’s something else — wouldn’t I look silly? If you objected to my characterization of Ragozin, you’d have written a different comment. As to that characterization and the matter of “neutral” language, he has claimed recently that Russia doesn’t target civilians. It does and has for years. See this week’s butcher’s bill, or see Borodyanka in 2022, where I stood in front of an apartment block demolished by jet-launched missiles and apartments still standing unfit for entry because Russians had mined them on their way out. He also wrote the following. Hard to see those who are not apologists claim in late 2024 that Russia “will also press ahead with denazification”. Note the absence of inverted commas around “denazification.” intellinews.com/ragozin-what…
Did I misinterpret Michael's neutral, informative tweet about Ragozin, or did he in fact call him a "Russian apologist of Moscow's war against Ukraine"? Hard to say.

So this deal is largely Potemkin, but the damage is obvious: the US will give something for nothing to get realignment with Russia and of course — in the long run — to line the pockets of Trump’s friends and family. Let’s assume, based on initial reporting, that Ukraine continues deep strikes with European assistance and even escalates now. Russian refineries burn. Moscow says they can’t satisfy the demands of the deal (which they couldn’t do anyway) because of those deep strikes. Whom do you think Trump will blame when his Potemkin bargain is shown to be just that? The hucksters in Moscow and Miami who sold it to him, or the country he’s sold out? Even in the deal’s inevitable implosion, Russia snags a big strategic victory. I’m guessing they factored that into their design.

Was Congress consulted about President Trump's diesel deal with Russia? If not, the waiver may be illegal. The Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act bans the import of Russian diesel to the United States until the president certifies, and Congress agrees, that the war is over. Regarding non-U.S. Russian diesel transactions, Treasury can lift restrictions. But under CAATSA it is probably required to notify Congress first as this "significantly alters" U.S. policy towards Russia.

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

The Council of Europe is the first international body to declare the Russian Duma illegitimate following unanimous support of my resolution. All countries should declare not just the elections in illegal occupied territories, but in Russia, to be illegitimate under an illegitimate President.
Putin has turned the ballot box from a symbol of freedom into an instrument of control. He is an illegitimate President. The so-called Duma is illegitimate. We must call out election washing and refuse to legitimise it.

I’m baffled by this vague sense that it’s conservative to acknowledge what is—to many people—a painfully obvious, tech-driven decline in ability. I can’t think of a better gift to the tech oligarchs profiting off of Brainrot Machines than making talk of declining standards taboo.

TIME Magazine has released the full, unedited transcript of its interview with Trump alongside its cover story I put in the comments. I had to take several breaks to get through it, it's bad, really bad, because it's our President. If you've ever visited a loved one in a Memory Care facility you'd know the residents can give hours long dissertations without saying anything of substance, long strings of filterless free association that could lead anywhere. While Trump has always been a narcissist and a con man, he was also an effective communicator, you can't pull a successful con without that skill. What we see in this interview seems to be truly disturbing and we need to face it together as a nation and do something about it. Please take the time to read. time.com/article/2026/10/01/…
