This budget:
✅Delivers the largest teacher pay raise in 15 years; the largest starting teacher pay raise in nearly 50 years
✅Fully funds Medicaid for this year
✅Provides meaningful, double digit percentage salary increases and bonuses to public safety officers
✅Reaffirms our commitment to western NC
✅Eliminates tax exemptions for data centers’ electricity use
✅Makes meaningful investments in community colleges, the DMV, child care, cybersecurity, a new veterans home, clean drinking water, and summer food programs
Today, I joined @zackhawkinsnc and the I/DD Caucus on their press conference to discuss why it is necessary for continued funding for North Carolinians in the I/DD Community. I think my brother and others who are living with autism and the care they need. #ncpol

North Carolina has not passed a budget and has left our employees & retirees behind. We need to raise the salaries of our state employees, so their pay matches their work. We also need to increase the COLA for state & local retirees.
Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign. Every campaign is a shared effort. Your time and encouragement made this victory possible, and our team earned a strong primary win together.
Good to see so many familiar faces at the polls yesterday and throughout early vote.
Support from neighbors and friends in the community I have proudly called home all my life means a great deal.
Experience, steady leadership, and a deep commitment to this community guide this work. Deep gratitude to each person who showed up, spoke up, and stood with us.
Excellent!!!!

Governor Jim Hunt was an exceptional governor, a keen political talent, and most importantly, a kind, smart, and dedicated public servant. I’ll miss him very much. nytimes.com/2025/12/18/us/po…
I’m sad to hear the passing of my good friend, our former Governor Jim Hunt! He was a champion for public schools and the Smart Start program. A man who was truly dedicated to NC. My condolences to Carolyn, Rachel, and the entire Hunt family.
You will be missed!
