🚨Zlatan Ibrahimović on Jesús Owono’s life-ending challenge on Jesús de Miguel during the FC Andorra vs Tenerife match: 🗣️ Zlatan Ibrahimović: “I watched the incident more than once, and honestly, I screamed more times than I can count. My first reaction was, what was the goalkeeper doing? What was he thinking, going into that challenge with that kind of force? I’m not saying he was wrong to come out and challenge for the ball. I’m talking about the force, the leg, the knee, the collision. What was going through his head? There was no consideration for human life, no care for the player in front of him. I find it one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever watched in football. Higuaín survived that collision with Neuer, but let’s not pretend every collision is the same. The speed and force of what happened here are enough to make anyone seriously concerned. Jesús de Miguel, a 30-year-old Spanish footballer, was sitting on the bench, probably thinking about the game ahead of him. He could never have imagined that stepping onto that pitch would end in such a tragedy. His wife, his family and his children were waiting to welcome their husband and father home after the match. They had no idea that they would never get that opportunity again. And that’s the part people need to understand. Football is a sport, but the person running towards you is somebody’s husband, somebody’s father, somebody’s son. I’m not going to stand here and defend a goalkeeper for going into a challenge with that level of force. There has to be responsibility when something like this happens. According to Spanish law, there could be questions of criminal responsibility, including possible manslaughter. I believe the incident deserves a serious investigation, and Owono must answer for what happened. Personally, I believe that if the investigation establishes that he was responsible for this tragedy, he should face the appropriate criminal consequences and be banned from playing professional football for life. You cannot make a challenge like that, end another player’s life and then put on your boots for the next game as if it was just another regular day at work. My friend, a human being has lost his life. Someone’s husband and father is not coming home. You cannot just walk away from that without accountability. This is not about protecting one player because he wears a goalkeeper’s shirt. It is about making sure every player understands that there are consequences when a challenge puts another person’s life at risk. How many more dangerous tackles and reckless challenges do we need to witness before somebody is held accountable? Now Jesús is gone. Who goes next before we finally decide that something like this deserves proper legal attention? For me, Owono must answer for his actions. The football world and supporters should be mourning a terrible loss, not celebrating a match, because one careless challenge has left a family without their loved one. There is no trophy, no three points and no football match that is worth a human life.”
