Can someone help me understand why everyone's vibe-coding their own beehiiv/Substack "alternative" rn and selling it to others? The newsletter business is entirely built on the trust and reputation of the platform as a whole, and literally having "Cheap" in your name won't help with that at all.
I vibe-coded beehiiv, and it's 83% cheaper. ✨✨ Introducing MailCheap.ai ✨✨ Everything you need to run a newsletter... ✍️ Editor 📅 Scheduling 📈 Stats 🌐 A website for every issue 🛡️ Deliverability guardrails 🔗 Send from your own domain (and keep your reputation) And it's not a dinosaur tool: + It's open source; you can run it for free + It's agentic; everything in the UI is available to your AI Import from beehiiv, Substack, or Mailchimp in 2 minutes. You pay for the emails you send, not for dormant subscribers. From $19/month. Oh, and no "Powered By" badge at the bottom of your emails.

Like for context I have two newsletters with a combined audience of over 300,000 subscribers on Substack (which doesn't cost me anything btw). So I'm not a total newbie when it comes to this game. What am I missing here?

The elite, by definition, won't even touch their keyboards for $100. What you're looking for is cheap talent. You might not have the budget to hire the elite, and that's fine, but at the very least have some integrity and be honest.

"Moat isn't this. It's that." Can we stop pretending that this thing we call a moat is one-dimensional? "Moat is taste!" Sure. Go ahead. Taste is pointless if there's no trust. "Moat is trust!" Sure. Keep having fun until someone makes a more tasteful alternative. "Moat is the audience!" Sure. Until someone with a bigger audience copies your thing. "Moat is the details!" Sure. Keep crafting details in a product that's a solution in search of a problem. "Moat is ..." You get the point. A moat is an interconnected network of properties, all having the same priority as one another. In other words, one property is easy to replicate; a collection of properties is harder to replicate.
