EXCLUSIVE in @smh & @theage
@MarisePayne was explicitly warned that the caps on citizens returning home would leave Australians stranded and destitute and unable to access work or healthcare overseas in the middle of a pandemic.

"We will not look back at this element of our pandemic management with any pride."

Shocked! After the lollipop of 19 months, now said they will allow 120 students p/w. Really, is it your plan? We don't think you want to let us in, your are just playing with our life. Finally, students can see the real image of Australian govt. #Shame #letusback #ScottMorrison

This is Australia. So sad to see what this country has become. You’d think the feds might take her on and open the international border. Instead nothing from @ScottMorrisonMP and @JoshFrydenberg except words from the sidelines.

“Airlines warn arrival caps will bump 18,000 Australians from flights home”
“It means the number of Australians who’ve registered their desire to return with the government, currently around 34,000, is likely to grow.”

Heartbreaking to hear James Turbitt (@turbitt_james) describe the moment he said goodbye to his dying mum via video call while he's stuck in hotel quarantine - he'd raced home from Belgium, but was denied entry to Western Australia. @BBCWorld

Important read. Will political hypocrisy reach a level you can't bear? We all draw lines in different places. smh.com.au/world/europe/scot…

No overseas acquired cases and 10 positive in the community, yet those positive in the community will be at home and those negative from overseas will be stuck in hotel quarantine and charged $1000s for it. Yeah, that seems fair. 🙄🙄
Reported yesterday: 10 new local cases and no new cases acquired overseas.
- 15,858 vaccine doses were administered
- 26,180 test results were received

But what needed to be done a year ago was to create 25,000 quarantine places (at least twice what we have now) to facilitate essential travel - allowing entry and exit for work & for families and couples to reunite. NZ & TW did so safely #strandedAussies strandedaussies.com/get-info…

It's great how the Australian government, per its fully vaccinated cabinet members, is first cab off the rank in demonstrating how home quarantine could be gradually rolled out, making essential and business international travel more sustainable and reliable into the future.

Heartbreaking to hear the stories of those separated from their loved ones by a cruel and broken immigration system. Proud to represent @Greens to support #protest4partners #exemptpmv300

There is something really rather rotten going on. Was there medical advice to criminalise Australian citizens? It's time @ScottMorrisonMP and @GregHuntMP told the truth rather than hide behind health bureaucrats who are not responsible for the moral fibre of this nation.

A travel ban for Australian citizens from India will come into effect with criminal sanctions. I read this was based on “expert medical advice”. If so, I’d like to see the advice and evidence that justifies placing these Australians in harms way. And what about rest of the world? – at New South Wales, Australia

The Senate COVID Committee will convene this week to examine the Government’s India travel ban, jail and other penalties, and importantly the welfare of Indian Australians stranded in India.

Australians have a right to return to their country of citizenship. There are strong arguments this ban is unlawful, beyond being improper in a democracy | OPINION @Rubenstein_Kim1 theage.com.au/national/the-e…
