It's claimed climate change means we're seeing more grey squirrels here - with some now breeding three rather than twice a year
Campaigners say it's making it harder to reintroduce red squirrels to the mainland in places like Devon and Cornwall

It’s Bees’ Needs Week! One of the 5 simple actions to help pollinators is growing nectar-rich trees and shrubs.
But many native trees, including oak, hazel and willow, face a threat from grey squirrel bark stripping.
Protect woodlands from this damage so wildlife can thrive.

A third of British children don’t know red squirrels exist in the UK, and 1 in 10 can’t identify one from a photo.
Reds are disappearing while non-native grey squirrels dominate much of the country.
If children are going to protect our wildlife, they need to know it exists.
Victorians said “what’s the worst that could happen?”
Then:
❌ Sent kids up chimneys
❌ Invented workhouses
❌ Smogged up London
❌ Introduced GREY SQUIRRELS
That aged badly!
Now red squirrels are paying the price
Let’s do better: support conservation & protect UK wildlife

Bird feeders can quickly turn into a buffet for grey squirrels. Using squirrel-proof feeders helps keep food for birds where it belongs and discourages squirrels from hanging around your garden. Small changes like this can make a big difference for local wildlife.
Grey squirrels thrive where there’s an easy supply of food. By changing a few simple habits in your garden, you can help limit their numbers and protect local wildlife. Follow these tips to make your space less squirrel-friendly and more nature-friendly.
