I have been in ministry contexts where this phrase was treated as a sacred mantra. This is a good and needed corrective:

During my travels out west recently, I went to a bookstore that carries rare and old books. This is a first edition Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. It has been a long time since I have been tempted with stealing. After all, what is guy to do when a book is $3200.00 dollars. 🤷🏻♂️

In honor of the BYU (Mormons) vs Notre Dame (Catholics) match-up today, let me remind everyone of some important, essential truths:
- The Bible is the Word of God, consisting of 66 books, is our only rule for faith and practice, & infallible.
- We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ ALONE
- The Trinity is essential Christian doctrine. True Christians believe in one God, who is three Persons (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit)
- Jesus is our only mediator
- Jesus’ sacrifice was perfect & sufficient. No works we do can earn salvation.
- Jesus was crucified, died, and rose from the dead three days later, as was prophesied.
- God always existed & will always exist
- After death, we either go to Heaven or Hell based whether or not we had faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
- No human has, can or will become a god.

It’s a useless endeavor to fight for sinning less if we are not fighting to see the beauty of Christ more. The battle against sin requires offense AND defense.
As Christ Followers, we never grow past repentance but only through it. Our most noble deeds and giftings become empty pieces of performance art if there is not a daily turning to Christ.
“Give responsibilities before titles.”
That is really helpful Mark. I so wish I had learned and valued that earlier on in ministry.
I don’t read the scriptures to prove them wrong. I gave that up a long time ago. The scriptures though have proven me wrong time and time again.
And what a wonderful gift that is to me.
This is a helpful article on a difficult passage.
Hebrews 6:4–6 is not saying it’s impossible for those who fall away to return again to Christ and be forgiven. It insists that it’s impossible to leave the new covenant, repent, and return to the life of the Mosaic administration. By God’s design, the path between the old and new covenants is one way only.

Anything that we think, feel, and do that is Godward is not a product of human engineering but is in fact a supernatural miracle of the Holy Spirit.
This is not only helpful in revering God’s providence but is also deeply pastoral.
“The great thing, if one can, is to stop regarding all the unpleasant things as interruptions of one’s ‘own,’ or ‘real’ life. The truth is of course that what one calls the interruptions are precisely one’s real life—the life God is sending one day by day: what one calls one’s ‘real life’ is a phantom of one’s own imagination.”
—C.S Lewis, from a letter on December 20, 1943 to Arthur Greeves
If God’s love is only as big as the largest mountain ranges in the world then what a tiny love that would be. On the contrary, His great love for His children extends through the stratosphere!
You are steadfast love, oh Lord extends to the heavens... (Ps 36:5)
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 8:38-39)
To accomplish redemption Christ would gladly suffer the cross all over again. The wonderful news is that He doesn't need to.. the first time gloriously satisfied the justice and mercy of God.

AI skepticism versus AI optimism is not on a left-right continuum. I am more optimistic, but I am listening to those who are more skeptical because I think there are real ethical concerns. Innovation and technology are aspects of subduing the earth and fulfilling the creation mandate. Yet, we live in a fallen world and we cannot just blindly accept every innovation. There are assumptions built into our new technologies.
What gives me hope--as opposed to the more pessimistic apocalyptic outlooks--is that humans have agency. We get to determine how AI will be incorporated into our future. Ironically, the presence of human pushback and resistance, and skepticism is one data point that tells me that the robots will never take over.
