Christa Pike - whose execution failed last night - t*rtured and k*lled a 19-year-old girl, then kept a piece of her skull as a souvenir and bragged about it at breakfast the next morning. She also tried to strangle another inmate while in prison. "There were so many wounds they could not all be cataloged." Tennessee tried to execute her at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville last night. Two doses of pentobarbital injected by an all-female execution team failed to k*ll her. Witnesses said she was still snoring when the state stopped and sent her to a hospital. Pike later said she kept cutting because Slemmer “kept talking and begging” 📷The assault went on for about 30 minutes to an hour. 📷Pike said she used the box cutter to slice Slemmer's throat six times and told a classmate that she used the meat cleaver on Slemmer's back. 📷Dr. Elkins found a 6-inch gaping wound across the middle of the neck that went through fat and muscle, plus 10 more slash wounds on the neck and throat, and slash wounds on the face. 📷Shipp carved a pentagram into Slemmer’s chest and another on her forehead while her heart was still beating. 📷There were slash and stab wounds on the back, arms, abdomen, and chest, and defensive wounds on the right arm. 📷Elkins said there were so many wounds they could not all be cataloged. 📷Dr. Elkins said he found that Pike had issued four heavy blows: two to the left side of the head, one over the right eye, one in the nose area. 📷The major blow to the left side fractured the right side of the skull and drove bone into the brain. The bridge of the nose was fractured. 📷Pike broke off a piece of her skull, kept it in her jacket, and showed it to other students the next day. Detectives found it in her pocket. 📷Elkins fitted it into the missing section of the skull in front of the jury. 📷Her classmate said when Pike showed it to them, she danced in a circle, smiled, and sang “la, la, la” while she described the killing. 📷At breakfast she said the bone was in her pocket: “And, yes, I’m eating breakfast with it.” She told another student that the brown spots on her shoes were not mud: “that ain’t mud on my shoes, that’s blood.” 📷Cause of death was blunt force to the head, not the cuts. Slemmer was alive the whole time. Pike had told an investigator she leaned over the dying girl and asked, “Colleen, do you know who’s doing this to you?” On August 24, 2001, inside prison, Pike tried to strangle another inmate, Patricia Jones, with a shoestring. She was convicted of attempted first-degree m*rder and given 25 more years. The argument is that Pike shouldn’t be k*lled because she may have suffered some type of abuse as a child.
