And suddenly, @Arc_Hound's theory doesn't sound that far-fetched. Seen from this angle, there are definitely questions worth asking.
📺🎤Will we ever know the truth?
Tune in tomorrow night, on HIDEO 2! 🎤📺 (Okay, enough with the jokes).

By refusing to give them his likeness and pulling his signature from the re-releases, Shinkawa sends the ultimate message:
"You have the legal rights to the franchise, but you will never have the signature of its visual creator."
5/7
In the end, this is where it all clicks:
Konami kept the Metal Gear name.
But without Shinkawa’s brushstrokes, ink silhouettes, and mecha designs (from REX to Sahelanthropus), the franchise is just a bunch of hollow polygons with the look of broken souls.

If we put ourselves in Shinkawa's shoes. Imagine the humiliation an artist of his caliber had to endure.
For Kojima, seeing his artistic blood-brother treated like a factory serial number was probably an absolute red line. Reconciliation became physically impossible.
3/7
Remember the dark reports from back then? Konami monitoring KojiPro staff with corridor cameras, cutting internal internet, tracking toilet breaks, and demoting senior devs to clean pachinko machines or work factory security. A complete corporate nightmare.
2/7
Kojima is a communicator. He knows how to take hits and act as a shield to defend his team.
Shinkawa is a craftsman genius. His craft is ink, lines, and design. A discreet artist, far from any drama.

You all remember the Kojima-gate, post-MGSV, when we all felt it was the end for MGS and we were all panicking.
But we never really put Shinkawa into the equation.
Think about it for two seconds... One, two....!

My tinfoil theory is that it Shinkawa who was the one who actually got fired from Konami in 2015, not Kojima. Kojima simply followed suit in solidarity of his most trusted artist.
