I love all things tokusatsu and kaiju with a focus on the Toho and Ultra side of things.

Joined November 2024
In 1984 Toho released 11 VHS tapes in the Toho Kaiju and SF Encyclopedia (東宝怪獣・SF 大百科) series. Each tape consisted of three 10-minute digest versions of classic Toho movies edited directly by Ishiro Honda himself (including the movies he didn't direct) and supervised by Tomoyuki Tanaka. It's truly impressive how many movies they were able to fit in considering even movies like Half Human and Invisible Man were included.

So not to be a debbie downer but the new Godzilla game looks pretty rough right? Like I'm happy we're getting it but it looks really cheap. They sucked the soul out of the original games.

German tokusatsu and giant monster movies that had Frankenstein or King Kong in their title in the 60s and 70s. One even has both👀

Leading up to the release of Godzilla Minus One in 2023 select screenings were held of four movies hand-picked by Takashi Yamazaki himself that inspired Godzilla Minus One. This was 山崎貴 セレクション ゴジラ上映会. I think it would be apt, especially with who we now know Godzilla is fighting, to watch all of these leading up to the release of Godzilla Minus Zero.

Totally surreal to meet Dan Moroboshi himself, Kohji Moritsugu, in person. It wasn't that long ago that I watched Ultraseven and was absolutely blown away by its complex stories and character development. It's so cool to come full circle. He was incredibly nice.

Currently at G-Fest! Pretty fun so far. Unfortunate Tsuburaya couldn't make it this year, but it's good to be back.

“There’s a lack of cynicism to Speed Racer, and there’s a certain emotional wholesomeness. I feel like, you know, with a lot of the more modern superhero Marvel stuff, there’s like these grains of cynicism and self conscious humor. It’s like in order to be cool it sort of has to make fun of itself first, and Speed Racer didn’t have any of that. Speed completely meant every word he said, and I feel like especially now in this day and age it totally resonates with people.” “James Gunn’s Superman was such a wonderful movie. I mean you can see the influences there for sure. That type of ultra imaginative visual aesthetic.” -Emile Hirsch, THEE Speed Racer
