There's no such thing as good people and bad people. Just people. Messed up irrational emotional beings trying to make the right decisions based on the information and the options available to them.

Reform and reset are synonyms. The establishment is desperate to return to the days when they enjoyed absolute impunity over the lower orders and none of us were permitted to talk back to them.

I see the efforts to tackle misinformation are going great on here. This isn't a real Musk tweet - but it came up as a recommendation in my notifications. The more desperately they try and tighten their grip the more it all falls apart.
The greatest advert possible for the NHS summed up in one gloriously ignorant tweet.

'Folk politics' is a set of myths about The People as a monolithic reactionary lump who have an inherent immutable need for hierarchy and bigotry. It takes a lot of privilege to find it appealing.

I'm mostly on Bluesky these days and it's been incredible watching the flood of people leaving this place and arriving there recently. The right is never satisfied with winning as long as they know that someone somewhere is still disagreeing with them.

Fascism isn't a disease. Fascism isn't a disability. Fascism isn't a lack of education. Fascism isn't foreign. Fascism is a defence of established power and privilege through the dehumanisation of anyone that challenges it.

Starmer and the monarchy going for 'can't change the past' messaging on reparations for colonialism + slavery is a total fuck you to the global South. Nobody is asking for a fucking time machine. It is an attempt to ridicule them in order to preserve supremacist values.

A pharma company promises to invest less than £300 million and the government starts talking about making their products mandatory for the struggling masses. That's how desperate they are to sell us out.

Even if it had been a straight bribe it would still have been a bloody cheap deal

More authoritarian oppression = more profit. And they say it like it is a good thing.
This year’s laureates in the economic sciences have helped us understand differences in prosperity between nations. Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James Robinson have demonstrated the importance of societal institutions for a country’s prosperity. Societies with a poor rule of law and institutions that exploit the population do not generate growth or change for the better. The laureates’ research helps us understand why. #NobelPrize

This fucking ridiculous bullshit is the foundation of our whole political and economic system. It's incredible. You have to shut up and do what you're told because rich people say so and rich people know best. That's all this is.
The introduction of more inclusive institutions, less extraction and the rule of law would create long-term benefits. So why don’t the elite simply replace the existing economic system? The laureates’ model for explaining the circumstances under which political institutions are formed and changed has three components. The first is a conflict over how resources are allocated and who holds decision-making power in a society (the elite or the masses). The second is that the masses sometimes have the opportunity to exercise power by mobilising and threatening the ruling elite; power in a society is thus more than the power to make decisions. The third is the commitment problem, which means that the only alternative is for the elite to hand over decision-making power to the populace. #NobelPrize

The strongest echo chambers come from beliefs that present themselves as absolute objective truths. It means people cannot see anything outside of them as real. Any contradiction must be assigned to the Other.

I don't really know what it is like to not feel that sense of doom. It's present in my earliest memories, going back to infant school. None of the methods I was offered made it go away But now I think making it go away isn't helping. Facing it and living with it is possible.

Things like risk management and impact analysis are woke Marxism now. It's offensive to even suggest they could be necessary. They are Good People doing Good Things and only a Bad Person would question that. That's all they want and all they need.

They were and are solely focused on hurting people to teach them a lesson. Because they are right wing authoritarians. "Spokesperson for Keir Starmer says focus was instead on encouraging pensioners to seek additional support"

Saying you have experienced a form of privilege isn't actually quite the same thing as saying that you are directly and solely personally responsible for all of the inequality and pain and suffering that exists in the world. But turning it into that is a lot easier.

Watching Paralympic closing coverage last night and was honestly moved to tears when as part of the GB summary the (disabled) presenter explained how important it is not to use the positivity to ignore the fact that life is still generally basically shit here for disabled people.
