If you want to read about Senator-elect Adam Hamilton, and the way he became the first Democratic senator from Kansas in nearly 100 years, I have the piece for you:

Yep! It’s why I think the D nominee will be whoever best embodies “looks like a cinnamon roll, could actually kill you”
Here's a wild idea in politics: what if the nice guys win, and the mean guys lose? (gift link below).

“Christian nationalism was defeated by an interfaith coalition and interfaith cooperation, and now it is going to become much more muted. Democrats proved that they can deploy faith just like Republicans do. They just deploy it differently.”

NEW: Tuesday was a generational setback for the Christian nationalist agenda. At every level they were trounced — by an interfaith coalition of Democrats, no less. Gift link below:

For years, the MAGA movement embraced cruelty, with not much of a downside among voters. This week, judgment came. vox.com/politics/509733/crue…

Yet another case where "conservative" influencers attacking Maria Elvira Salazar were wrong. She was right.

Fascinating: Al Mohler, one of the most influential voices in evangelical Christianity, acknowledges the religious left "is back."
He also argues liberal Protestantism is more political than conservative Christianity* (a fascinating take!), but striking to hear him talk this way
this made me laugh bc like... well... its funny to see latino business out in the open like this

Literally just turning up a dial that says racism on it until enough people clap
Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed gave his victory speech in Arabic last night. Rep. Ilhan Omar addressed her victory party in Somali.
And this morning, Iran's supreme leader posted that America's collapse "has accelerated."
What should we make of these acceptance speeches? @SulkinMaya

One notable result from last night: CA-22 actually shifted *more blue* as votes came in. Incumbent David Valadao appears on track to lose this Trump+2, heavily Hispanic and agriculture-based Central Valley district by 36 points to Randy Villegas. Just an unreal shift.

On Sept. 29, I taped a long podcast for @TheFP, hosted by @Olivia_Reingold.
It was about the Jordan Neely/Daniel Penny case, which we both covered. It was a powerful conversation because there were real differences and I had space and time to challenge some of the Free Press’s priors about cities, crime, homelessness, and mental illness.
Therefore, it’s upsetting to learn that they have buried the interview. I understand that their orthodoxies might’ve been challenged, but this is the only interview out of dozens for this book where this happened. They’re giving excuses about not loving the direction the conversation took and are now completely ghosting.
I have appealed to Olivia, but the issue seems to be senior management.
It was a real, very human conversation, with live grappling across difference. That should be embraced and celebrated, not hidden or censored.
If @bariweiss and the Free Press can be persuaded to put the conversation out there in full, I would welcome the repair. Thank you for considering in good faith.

Call me a softie, but @Timodc’s @BulwarkOnline podcast episode today with Adam Hamilton, a pastor who was just elected as the first Democratic senator from Kansas since 1932, made me cry.
Hearing him talk about how the injustices he’s witnessed in this country and his belief in loving thy neighbor inspired him to run for office genuinely moved me. He wants to bring decency and civility back to our politics at a time when we desperately need both.
He restored a little of my faith in what politicians can and should be. I’ve always believed public service should represent the best among us. People who genuinely want to make a difference and stand up for what’s right.
I know, I know. I sound cheesy. But there have been so many moments over the last few years when I’ve wanted to walk away from politics altogether. And hearing someone like him, and knowing that voters chose someone with that kind of conviction and compassion, reminds me why I haven’t.
Give the episode a listen 🤍

Ron DeSantis is like that one employee who survived mass layoffs because he was the only one who did his job and now he can shit talk all his former coworkers and they can't do shit because he's the only one left standing.

I’m sorry this is just the most hilariously media brained thing to say.
I mean… maybe? But also the person who would attend an in person pod save show is someone like me: partisan and ideologically left to most other voters.
The good people of North Carolina were so jazzed by Roy Cooper they elected him by a margin of 20 points!
