As a bit of a news addict at the moment, I'm intrigued to know what others think about this extract from Williamson's First Day of My Life...
In the #Reading4Normal Book Club, we've been thinking about ordinariness in Lisa Williamson's First Day of My Life. Can you relate to this scene from Chapter 5? (1/3)

How do you access news stories? Do you watch the news with your family? If you are an adult, can you remember watching the news with your family when you were a child? Have any news stories stuck with you? (2/3)

If you work with young people and would like to set up your own #Reading4Normal Book Club to help them connect with each other, build a community, and recognise all the different ways of being young and British, we’ve developed a Guidance Document: reading4normal.com/resources (3/3)
We have to make a stand against LGBTQ+ book censorship. And these school staff have. I applaud and thank every one of them. But it’s not about me - it’s about the students, LGBT or not, who deserve (and need) to see their realities, and those of their peers, reflected in books.

We believe this includes the LGBTQ+ community. YA has a profound ability to impact the lives of readers, including the most vulnerable. All young people need to see themselves positively reflected in books to gain insight into the lives of others through fiction. (4/5)

Teachers and students should be free to read and talk about LGBTQ+ lives. We support authors, like Simon James Green, who are working to make sure all young people feel seen and heard. We also stand by those who have been harmed by this decision. (5/5)
