Since the military is in the news a lot, why not read about how religion affected the US Army and Navy in the 19th Century? Check out *Valiant & Pious* from @DavenantInst Press! It also has a cool cover. Purchase link below:

or as Maritain put it, the "awakening" of natural reason by centuries of "gospel leaven fermenting", bringing awarness of natural law into fuller flowering

Why do Christians need to recover a richer understanding of the relationship between faith and military life? @IVMiles joins Davenant's Parker Haines to discuss his new book, Valiant & Pious: The Idea of the Christian Soldier in America.

The more I've worked on this project for @crossway, the more I've become convinced that the New Testament use of the Old dismantles the case for slow incremental development and utterly vindicates "early high Christology." Here we have Peter (casually!) replacing YHWH with Christ, in a passage that's not even making a wider point about Christology.

Here’s another reminder that the Sound of Music is a film conservatives should watch with their families annually.
The whole movie is about the complementarity of the sexes, highlighting masculine and feminine strengths and weaknesses, and how the sexes become something greater together than either naturally tends to be in isolation.
Captain Von Trapp’s firmness turned to harshness following the loss of his wife. Meanwhile, Maria’s romanticism caused her to be “flighty as a feather” until she found a man she could follow.
When Maria walks down the aisle to be married, the organ plays the reprise of “How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria?” with the implication that Von Trapp has a problem that needs solving, too.
The solution is a godly marriage, which heals their ills, restores joy to the home, and blesses the whole family.
(There are similar lessons in Rolf’s boyish idealism and Liesl’s naïevte, though their doomed relationship was not to be.)
Besides all of this, the film paints a positive picture of patriotism against the backdrop of Nazism. It shows the glory of music. And it has nuns who engage in just war tactics. What’s not to love?

I was going to try to follow up last week's discussion with a post on this, but @rdhasler beat me to it. A lot of good stuff in here for folks seeking out mentorship.

Mentorship is a hot topic right now. Younger generations want to be mentees, but do they know how?

"my objection to your religion is *checks notes*...literacy."
Protestants like to talk about the meaning fo Greek words and base their interpretation of Scripture on those meanings.
How do Protestants know that a Greek word means this or that? They appeal to commentaries and dictionaries written by fallible men -- as if they are infallible. It is one giant circular argument used to persuade the ignorant people in the pews.
They have no authority by which to establish any true interpretation of Scripture, which leaves them in endless uncertainty, arguing with other Protestants for 500 years now.

According to Aristotle, man is between beast and god. And yet man's life is dynamic and diachronic, not static. Thus, for Boethius every person will become either a beast or a god.
